Nieuport 21
« on: July 22, 2014, 03:42:10 AM »
Hello

My next project is a Nieuport 21 in scale 1:48. However, since I find only one photo (Lufbery Reoul) of the plane of this, I turn to you with the request. Does anyone have any photos of Nieuport 21 of French and American aces or other pilots?

Thank you

 :)

Hello Aviatik,
The best source on the web for french aviation in WW1 is :

http://albindenis.free.fr/Site_escadrille/page_centaine.htm

Sorry it is in french but the photos inside are fabulous. Many of them are unpublished elsewhere.

Compare to the Ni 17 ( Le Rhone 9J 110 hp ) the Ni 21 was equiped with a Le Rhone 9C 80 hp.
Luftbery flew the Ni 17 s/n 1844 and Ni 21 s/n 1645.

few french 21's here : http://albindenis.free.fr/Site_escadrille/escadrille523.htm

Some Nieuport 21 identified serials here : http://albindenis.free.fr/Site_escadrille/Societe_Nieuport.htm

cheers

Thanks a lot for this, Ma'am.

I know the site, but had not seen the excellent material on this type there previously. I definitely have a bee in my bonnet now to do one of these....

Of course when you google Nieuport 21 about 90% of the images that show up are Nieuports of other types lol!  But I found an interesting Nieuport 21 flown by Lafayette Escadrille pilot Bert Hall that is very interesting, it is aluminum overall with a black $ on the fuselage, N 1637.  This aircraft is illustrated on the cover of Over the Front Vol 24 No 4, with a photo of it as well.  You can see the picture here, pretty simple markings but I love the story of the Lafayette's "Bad boy" and plan on building his N.21 one of these days.  http://www.overthefront.com/shop/league-membership/135
