Another 1/28 Revell Spad XIII
« on: July 14, 2014, 04:56:02 AM »
All,

This model was bought for me by my wife (Jacquie) as a cheer me up gift whilst I was out of work.  Jacquie guessed I already had this one but this was the only WW1 kit she saw in the shop and liked the colour scheme.  This was a nice gift idea so did not like to disappoint Jacquie by not building this kit again.

This is another of Revell's recent re-issue of the old kit.   I kept the build fairly simple and could not resist adding the pilot figure.  Mostly built OOB with a few minor changes/additions to the outside of the model, e.g. worked MG's, added the fairing below underside of top wing to cowling (some sort of engine plumbing I'm guessing), rudder control horn, etc.

Rigged with combination of 4lb fishing line and stretched sprue.   As I've mentioned before, these old kits are really not bad and fit together really well - the top wing just snapped into place on this one.

Jacquie was pleased with the result as much as me.

Next on my bench will be the WNW SE5a which I've had for a fair while.

Regards

Dave

Simply gorgeous, Dave!  I love the scheme.  What paints did you use?

Another beauty Dave!  I love what you do with these old kits, for which I have a soft place in my heart from childhood, when I slapped them all together with tube glue and Testor's or Pactra gloss enamel and a cheap tiny brush. :D.

Your application of this paint scheme is superb.  Very well done my friend, and thanks for keeping these memories alive.  Outstanding build!

Cheers and huzzas,

Bob

Beautifully done Dave, the scheme you used is very appealing and the finish on the model is superb, you have done a great job with the rigging as well.

Hello O.M.:

Great looking build.  It is fun to see these old kits.  They are a fun build, and like you say, just OOB turn out pretty darn good.  Love the scheme and with those new decals, I may have to pop for one.

Thanks for posting.

Best

Many thanks, all -

This will now be the last of the efforts on these ancient, large scale Revell kits.

Bud - The paints I always use are Revell 'aqua' colour acylic paint.   As a brush painter these work really well for me and when sufficiently thinned (plain tap water) dry to smooth finish with no brush marks left showing.

Dave

How did I miss this one? This is a superb build - it just oozes quality. Excellent modelling and wonderful paint and markings. Great all round especially as this kit is so old.
