1/72 figures?
« on: July 07, 2014, 08:11:14 AM »
Evening all,

Are WW1 figures available in 72nd at all? I've never seen any and I'd like to have some RFC/RNAS/RAF ground crews and airmen for my hangar diorama. Some seated pilots and observers of all sides would be useful too as the majority of aeroplane kits don't come with any and a lot of those that do are so poor as to not bother with them.

Thanks

CMK resin does a "Richtofen's Flying circus" set, Eduard does an RFC set, and WD models does quite a range of figures, mainly army but there are some others too.

There is also a set of Russian pilots out there too, but I can't remember who does them...

PJ Productions  do a nice couple of pilots in resin:

Preiser do some 1920s figures that can be modified to suit, here they are ready to go in my Roden Felixstowe (along with the PJ productions pilot

Then there is the set from Orion that supposedly covers four countries. They look better than the shot below

Thanks, James. Those PJ pilots look very good.

I've sent off for the WD models RFC figures and was also tempted by the Crossley staff car.

Lovely figure painting, especially in 1/72, most impressed - you've made me think again about those WD sets
Great scene too, as Jamo says

Thanks Jamo and Squiffy for your input to this topic, it is always nice to let other members know what and where products are available. Amazing figure painting in 1:72 scale Squiffy.

IT Miniatures do some WWI figures in 20mm scale that can serve as German ground crew:

This range of figures is sold by Frontline Wargaming.  These are wagon crew, drivers etc. http://www.itminiatures.co.uk/it-wf-4.html

I used these guys in my Zeppelin Staaken diorama along with some British railway figures in OO scale (1/76) from Dart Castings (with a bit of trimming)

Lamercraft do some WWII 20mm figures which can be converted to more closely resemble WWI. The quality of the castings is absolutely top notch! Virtually no flash, anatomically perfect and very crisp detail. Height is perfect for 1/72. Not too chunky like a lot of wargame figures. Obvious areas to modify would be removing the binoculars and the eagle on the jacket breasts and caps. Set: LC02 German Staff Officers £4.35 Now sold by Eltheim figures at this website: http://www.elhiemfigures.com/24.html

More German ground crew figures from W^D Models, set WD34 - German Light Railway Troops/Gunners

British WD21 Fitters/Mechanics (in resin)

Cheers
James
