HGW Fokker E.III seat belt question
« on: July 05, 2014, 05:03:47 AM »
I've just started assembling the seat belts, as the first step in my WNW E.II/E.III Early build.  It's the first WW1 kit I've built since I was a teenager a few several years decades ago, and I haven't worked up the courage to actually touch the kit yet  ::)

After studying how the belts thread through the buckles, there's something wrong.  Threading belt 2 through PE part 4 the way the instructions show just won't hold.  It will pull right out of the buckle.  The same is true for lap belt 5.

And in a similar vein, just what do PE parts 2 and 3 connect to?

Are there any period photos of real harnesses that I could use to figure out how the belts should be threaded?  The belt set looks great, but knowing it won't function as is would just bug me every time I saw it  :o

Thanks!

Peter

Eureka!  I found the answers to my questions here:

http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/aviation-history/seatbelt-carl-menckhoffs-fokker-d-vii-16092/

It took a minute for the photos to load, but they're there.  Although this is a D.VII belt, other sources indicate that Fokker used this type of belt on all his aircraft, and I did find a few photos of the same type of end hanging over an Eindecker's cockpit coaming.
