Technology - makes me wonder sometimes.
« on: July 03, 2014, 08:50:05 AM »
Aaahhh technology, we can't live without it but it is a subject that causes enormous amounts of headaches. I have a new printer/scanner/copier and it is a wonderful piece of equipment. Now, I wanted to change the settings on the scanner to improve the scan quality, yep, simple matter of going to the device settings, no, not that simple, after typing in the serial number everything stalled. I contacted the consumer help department, very helpful people, they said they would send an email with instructions on what to do, great I thought - the email arrived with 8, yes 8 full pages of instructions just to change the setting on the scanner, and it was all written in computer jargon which I don't understand at all. I decided to do a search through my program files on my computer and sure enough, hidden in the depths I found the scanner control centre, adjustments took me about one minute and now I scan at 600dpi, even changed where the scans are stored, really good quality scans now. The 8 pages of instructions I printed out have now become obsolete, just like most new pieces of technical equipment, obsolete the day it is released with new and better stuff released the following day.

That about sums it up for computer technology!
Isn't it fun...  ;)

Congratulations Des on figuring it out. I leave all that stuff to tech support (Linda, my wife)

I can't even run a TV remote unit.  :-[  It was a much simpler time when my wife paused to change the channel while bringing a snack for me from the kitchen.  ;D

Cheers,

Chris
You can have it good; You can have it fast; you can have it cheap. Pick any two, but all three are impossible.
