WNW Sopwith Pup/Pheon decals
« on: June 25, 2014, 09:22:19 AM »
Hi,

thought I might post these here as some may not have seen them on the Britmodeller site some months ago before I started the Roland.

The lovely WNW Pup modified into the 'nightfighter' C312 of 189 (Night) TS. The forward upper fuselage had to be modified to produce the smaller cockpit opening (using sheet brass) and I had some spare Holt flare holders and lamps courtesy of WNW Dave. I deviated somewhat from the Pheon colour scheme, basing my interpretation on the photo in the Air Britain book. Black was there not just for 'camouflage' but as an anti-glare surface; there is a pale colour under the fuselage and I interpreted this as a repaint/clean-up using some of the pale grey (?) used for the moon emblem. The upper wing roundels (using some lower wing versions though) should have a black outer ring covering the white but I chickened out of masking this - only doing the inner white.

I've only to attach the upper Lewis gun to the WNW/Pheon McCudden Pup and I'll have both day and night Gotha-hunters.

Thanks to Rowan for producing such delightful decal options.

Cheers,

GrahamB

Graham,
Beautiful Pup! The color scheme as Chris noted is STRIKING! I think that I have chosen the Pup as my next build and only hope it is half as well done as yours!

Beautifully done Graham, an unusual but very striking scheme and it has been very well executed, well done.

What an absolutely beautiful Pup, Graham!  The paint scheme is really
different and you have done a marvelous job of it.  Very nice weathering
on the underside also.  Well done!

She's truly gorgeous, Graham!  This is the second Pup I've seen in this scheme and I really like your take on it.
Cheers,

Lovely little puppie, Graham. Thanks for sharing.
But how about some close-ups, especially the lamps and Holt flares you have added, and the cockpit area, they are worth showing, I am sure.  :)

Thanks again guys.

I'll try some shots of the cockpit, lamps and flare holders tomorrow (it's 10.00 pm here now). The Pheon instructions are very good for these details as well as the special gunsights. With these I was able to wire up the lamps and holders as well as making the long cartridge/belt ejector from brass sheet rolled around a suitable former, with the join underneath - just flexible enough to get a slight curvature to it.

cheers,

GrahamB
