DH-9 WNW firewall bulkhead

During construction of the WNW AMC DH-9, the front firewall/ petrol tank wall is part G7.

The instruction book indicates that the part should be painted CDL, presumably to show a petrol tank covered in a protective fabric.

Should the whole bulkhead be painted in this manner or is part of it wood or metal?

Well judging by the lack of response I guess the exact colouring of part G7 must be a mystery?

In the same vein, the build seems to have revealed a couple of other curiosities...

Has anyone found what may be an "Easter-Egg" on the decal-sheet?

Number 96 has some curious text and no known placement in the instruction booklet:



Maybe the answer lies in the datafile, what say you? ;)

interesting....

about the first question, unfortunately I have no ansewer, due to my fat ignorance... I would paint it with some different tones of canvas, just to achieve something that the eye can read as...anything! ;)

the second one it's a little mistery that I would like to ask straight to the producer.... it seems a placard to remind that it's better identify friend or foe before shoot... it reads "JAM Could not see By my reckoning". ???

i think thats for the spot on the top wing in the cutaway right near the pilots face. i am pretty sure bristol fighters have a similar placard there.

open the link below and scroll down till you see the bristol fighter right in the cleft of the wing above the scarf ring assembly(from the angle of the photo) and you will see a white strip with a roundel a question mark etc . dont know what it means but they have that placard on brisfits why not on some dh-9s.

Dave, when building my DH.9 I have opted for wooden plate on the bulkhead and metallic colour for the cross bracing. Do not ask me why, please. This just came out so. Unfortunately, I could not find any photo showing open engine bay of DH.9. Pity, because there are a lot of mysteries. Sometimes I wish, they opened the engine in the Le Bourget DH.9. But then, it may be lacking the details, too. We will never know.

Also the presence of those three holes in the upper part of G7 is hard to explain. I have released my imagination and used the one on the left hand side (looking to the rear of the aircraft) to pass the control rod for throttle and the pair on the right hand side for the fuel lines.

I have omitted the placard decal 96, but my DH.9 served in Poland so it might have it removed if it had it at all.

BTW, how have you solved the mystery of contradictions between photos and instruction schemes for carburettors? In page 6 there is a photo showing the engine top and carbs of Le Bourget DH.9 with the title stating they are Zenith carbs. But they resemble the parts E19 which just below are called Claudel Hobson carbs! I have reckoned, that my DH.9 had the engine block with flat rectangles at the heads of intake manifolds, so I combined E17 with E19, as per the photo of Le Bourget DH.9. And thus found the problems with fit of the parts E3.
