O.T. Roden Rolls Royce 1/35
« on: May 05, 2014, 08:28:21 PM »
Hi all,

Thought I'd share my latest completed build with you all – even though it's not a plane... It's been a fair few years since I built something other than planes and figures – but this one has been in my stash for some time. However, when Airfix Model World asked if I had anything I wanted to build for them – this one came to mind.

Hope you like it, even though it's not a plane.  ;)

With all the landships being released at the moment, it may well not be the last one...

Mikael

By the way – I thought I should ad – the kit was very nice to build, with only a few small issues.

Excellent piece of modelling - have admired this kit often.
....................... Hows the 1/35th - 1/32nd discrepancy - Good, Bad, Noticeable??

Thanks Nigel and Andi very much appreciated.  :D

@ Andi – That is a very good question. I first bought it thinking I'd put it in a dio with a plane... However there is a noticable difference between 1/32 and 1/35. Looking at the Vickers machine gun, I wanted to replace it with a WNW item – but there was quite a big difference in length. That said – the Rolls is a pretty large vehicle, and perhaps if you used different depthts and levels – forcing the perspective in a boxed dio, you may well get away with it. Problem is if you want to add some figures...

OK Mikael ............... and YES, that's pretty much what I was asking - and the reason for my thinking too.

I don't tend to "do" finished dio's ... but rather assemble little set piece narratives that can be taken down again - sort of like a stage set that gets amended and altered. Nothing in the way of special, but rather just something to amuse one.

Thanks for the reply.

Truly lovely work, as usual, Mikael!  I, too, have been tempted by this kit and, although I have only one vehicle in my stash at the moment (1/48 Model T Ambulance), this build is pushing me closer.
Cheers,
Bud

Simply beautiful!!
Think of building one too. Or one of the "landships"? We'll see.
Thanx for sharing, Mikael!

Very nicely done, Mikael! I have this kit waiting in the stash but, alas, it's been supplanted by a bunch of Fokkers, Albys, and Rolands :)

Cool!  I just picked up one of these kits but have a few ahead of it at this point...
Will use your excellent build for inspiration once i start it.  Also I see that ICM is coming out with a set of 1/35 scale British Infantry 1914 sometime this year, so these guys may be able to be converted to RNAS troopers...

Thank You very much Mark, Tread and Dave!  :)

@ Dave – Those ICM guys sounds interesting – I have thought about adding a small base and a figure or two... Thanks for the tip!
