Good news for me
« on: May 01, 2014, 07:34:10 AM »
All,

After a terrible start to this year, I am finally able to report that I have (finally) been successful if getting a job.

The last two months have been nothing but stress and worry (the biggest worry regarding losing the home we only recently moved into) and I was seriously starting to wonder if I would ever work again.   After 32 years of solid work, losing my job hit me hard from a pride point of view.

Hopefully, all good now - I had the second stage interview in London yesterday and was offered the job (Assistant Technical Compliance Advisor - basically, a health and safety advisor) with a company called Cushman and Wakefield late this morning - I have even managed to get the salary at the higher end of the pay scale (although slightly less than I was earning before) so I am happy - as you can imagine, my wife is over the moon.

Only those who have experience of losing work and the stress of job hunting can really appreciate what I have been through.   Having to sign on welfare was the most demeaning experience I have ever endured.  I am so glad it is over!!

As part of the job offer, I have had to commit to some work based study (fire safety qualification) which I am more than happy to do - although this will mean model making mayl have take second place in the short term ...............  I start my new job next Tuesday after the Bank holiday.

If anybody ever has the misfortune to go through this, my strong advice is be persistent in job hunting and to flood the market with your CV.  You will end up chasing your tail and have a lot of ups and downs along the way, but if you keep at it something will come up.

I can start to really dream again - I'm hoping (now the house is safe) to re-start my flying lessons - we'll see.

Please wish me luck for next week!

Regards

Dave

Bravo Dave! This is wonderful news. If you don't mind I'll raise a glass (or more likely in my case a cup of tea) to your success.

Best wishes
Nigel

Sorry this is late but I have been away (again!). Being unemployed was one of the most soul-destroying and distressing experiences that I have had. I would only wish it on those who criticise others who are unemployed through no fault of their own - it might make them change their minds….

I can only say hooray for you - never mind having to sacrifice a few hours of modelling - you have a future again and some security and feeling of self-worth. I too will drink to your health and future happiness and hope that you do not repeat this experience.
