WNW Camel?
« on: April 26, 2014, 12:53:44 AM »
Today i read in the Aeroscale forum this quote:
"I don't know if it is news but, last night Richard Alexander, Project Director of Wing Nut Wings, responded to a query about a future Camel kit. He said, though there is no release date in the offing, the team is in fact working on adding a Sopwith Camel to the WNW's stable.
It will be well worth the wait- for those of us who have spent endless hours correcting the Camel kits currently on the market.
God's speed and good luck to the team at WNWs. The Camel is an important and much beloved subject. I can't wait to see what a "state of the art" kit will look like!"

Does anyone of NZ friends know something?

It's just a matter of time before the NZ whizz kids bring out the Camel - lets all be patient, I'm sure the wait will be more than worthwhile  ;)

I'm hoping for a whole string of those little beasts.  Clerget Camel, Bentley Camel, Camel Comic, 2F1...
Cheers,
Bud

Eventually, I think WNW will get around to doing all of the iconic aircraft of the Great War, not withstanding their statements to the contrary regarding such iconic aircraft as the Fokker Dr. I.  There was a time when Richard Alexander was saying that WNW had no intentions of doing a Camel because the Hobbycraft offering was good enough.  Obviously, things changed, as they so often do with this hobby and industry.

I don't know about the Comic - let alone the TF.1 or the trainer - but I'd like to think if the Fokker D.VII can merit four kits, then maybe we could see Clerget, Le Rhone, Bentley and 2F.1 Camels? Please?

A Camel from Wingnuts has been on the cards since 2012, but development time usually takes around two years, so this being the centenary of the start of WW1 we may see a Camel kit by the end of the year. Regardless of the release time I'm sure that a Camel kit will be extremely popular, non WW1 aircraft modelers can relate to a Camel and a Fokker Dr.1 so many kits will be sold to modelers who don't usually build WW1 aircraft models.

It's a night fighter version of the Camel.  Two Lewis guns moved to the top wing, so as to aid with avoiding blindness from the gun flash at night, head rest behind pilot's head and pilot's seat moved a little further back than on a F.1 Camel.  Those are the big differences I can think of.  There are likely others I am omitting.

PS IIRC, it also had the Clerget engine
