Very nice start, Filip.  The bracing will add a lot to the interior.

I`ve scratched the main tank (number 2) and replaced the two tanks, which were inacurate from what I`ve read...
Number 3 is a bulkhead on the basis of what I`ve seen in WnW`s G.IV instructions. I`m planning to build shelves for the Spandau drums between the fuel tank and the gunner`s bulkhead. I also have to change the Gotha tunnel a little bit...

looking at pics of the Gotha GV it seems the walkway was closed... at least on the night bombers that is.

Hmm on the basis of pictures in Windsock Special I cannot determine whether it was closed or open. Picture 72 - in the above mentioned Gotha! shows the open passageway.  Ron do you have any pics to support it - any help will be much apriciated!
I have other doubts - were there windows in the floor of the nose section?? pic 79 shows something rectangular under the nose section
Another one is the fuel tank - from what I`ve read in the report on the downed G.V there were two tanks...
...Confusion will be my epitaph ...

Hi Filip,
nice start on the Gotha.
The fuselage passageway was covered over on the G.V as the 2 fuel tanks filled the space between the pilot and rear gunners positions.The fuel tanks were positioned in tandem,but alas,there is no photographic or illustrative evidence of their shape,except for a rather indistinct GA drawing/plan that is available to view on the Russian 'Flying Machines' site that just faintly shows their postion in the fuselage.If you can get hold of them,Scale Models from Feb/Mar/April 1976 had an excellent coverage on the Gotha bombers by the late great Harry Woodman,with some good photos of the tunnel covered over.Some of these photo's are on line,just Google 'Gotha bomber',but ignore the Wikipedia fuselage layout!

I`ve browsed through both Gotha! and this website you`ve mentioned and I must admit I`m really confused. I`ve seen some pics of G.Vs with the passageway evidently covered and there are some with an open one. When it comes to the planes with open gangways the fuel tank seems to be located the way I`ve done it.  I think I will therefore leave it as it is unless someone has some strong evidence against my interpretation. ;)
I`m trying to figure out if Goerz bombsight was installed on G.Vs and what did underside of the nose section looked like?

Not a very spectacular update, but this is a small step for a modeller but a giant leap for Gotha  ;) ;)


4 - bulkhead
5 - Parabellum magazines locker. Ammo belts are: sprue + Tamiya tape
6 - Internal bracing wires with turnbuckles.
7 - gunner`s folded seat.

I WOULD BE MORE THAN GRATEFUL FOR ANY INFO CONCERNING BOMBSIGHT USED ON  GOTHAS G.V - I know that in G.IV they used Goerz bombsight, but there is no fairing under the nose of G. V where prism/s was/were covered. Instead there is something that looks like a window or a cover of some sort. But I have not seen any floor window in the commander`s cockpit pics. Also the description of the downed G.V does not mention anything about that. ANY IDEAS??
I have also noted that 670/16 has the similar rectangular thingy, that ERIKA has (picture 55 in Windsock), which is described as either a bombsight mount or a drift sight.
DO YOU HAVE ANY HYPOTHESIS ?
