Sopwith Snipe Early Wingnut Wings
« on: April 09, 2014, 10:58:03 AM »
Over the last few weeks I have been building Wingnut Wings fine Sopwith Snipe. It's been a very enjoyable build so far and has been the first time I have attempted woodgrain, propellers and rigging and chipping.

Here are the pics from the build to date.

The engine still needs the wires added but has been a real joy to build and paint, considering getting one on it's own.

The propeller took allot of careful masking and was again a blast to paint - shame this kit only came with one.

Front section parts all together before the gluing session.

The cockpit was what drew me to this kit and it didn't disappoint with really well moulded parts, I added some grip to the control column and wires using thin wire and EZ line fine.

It's a shame to put the fuselage over all this.

Landing gear has been really well done by WnW's

Fuselage, for this I used pastels for the wood and tried the hairspray chipping method for the first time.

That is my humble effort - let me know your thoughts and thanks for looking.

Very nice work, Dan. I especially like your engine and propeller work, and the cockpit is most believable.

A small suggestion: your last photo apparently shows a small seam along the back of your fuselage. Might just be the way the light is hitting the model but, if not, this would be easy to remedy.

I look forward to following your build, as I have one is the cache myself. Always glad to learn from other forumites!  :)

Good luck with the west of your build!
Cheers!
Gary

Thanks, none of the fuselage sections have been glued yet and the cockpit hasn't been inserted, hence the seam line.

Cheers again ;D

What you have achieved so far is excellent Dan, the engine is a model in its own right and you have painted it superbly. I love your propeller and the cockpit interior, this is coming together beautifully.

Hello Dan:

I am working on one of these and it is nice to see what others are doing.  You are doing great work.  I like how your cockpit turned out.  I use EZ line as well and probably wouldn't have thought to rig the underside as you did.  Good show and I will be doing same.  I like your prop as well.  The chipping looks a tad too much for me, but how much is too much.

I am looking forward to the rest of your build.

Best

Outstanding work so far, Dan!  She's really shaping up nicely.  There's a lot to be said for young eyes and a steady hand. ;)
Cheers,

Hello Dan,

Very nice work on the engine and prop. Your woodwork is outstanding. Like your seat. The interior is very neatly done. That's a great introduction.

Kind regards
Patrick

I completely agree with Patrick, Dan.  Really well done.  About the only thing I would do differently
would be maybe a bit less chipping on the deck, but then how do you argue with success? :D  Well done!

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Spectacular start Dan. Your detailing and paint work is very impressive. I like the amount of chipping you've added; my personal preference is the "used and dirty" look and you've done it beautifully. I have this kit in the lineup as well, and will follow with great interest.
Cheers,
Lance

Hello, Dan -

I've built this kit (the late version) in the past so can say that this kit goes together really well.   I think you are doing a great job so far and I really like the chipped paint around the cockpit.

Regards

Dave
