Sopwith Camel from Arkansas to New Zealand
« on: May 16, 2012, 10:17:25 PM »
Was searching Wikipedia for Sopwith Camel and ran across the following.

“There are only seven authentic Sopwith Camels left in the world.
•   One was displayed in the Aerospace Education Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. However, this facility was closed as of December 2010, and the Camel was sold to help pay off owed debts. The Camel was sold privately and moved to a museum in New Zealand.“

Is this a lead-in for WnW bringing us a Camel in the future?  ;)

Fun to speculate.

Paddy,
Hope you are right; as I said elsewhere we are in sad need of a decent Camel.
 :(
Cheers,

I couldn't agree more, Lance.  :)
I'm sure Sir Peter will bring us many surprises over the coming years and I would bet my big toenail that the Camel will be part of his plan.

Happy days!

No bad thing, indeed!

I bow in the general direction of Sir Peter Jackson. Long may he be successful in film, 1.1 scale aircraft preservation and plastic forming magic!

Backing away with my head bowed  ;)

SPJ has done wonders for the 1:32 scale WW1 model aircraft market and I firmly believe that it will not be long before we see a Sopwith Camel appear from behind secretive closed doors. With the amount of interest in the Camel it would be a very wise business move to produce a kit, I'm sure it would out sell any previous kits that they have produced.

Hear, hear! What a wonderful blessing Sir Peter Jackson has brought to us in the world of scale vintage aircraft and the full size beauties that move through the doors of TVAL. History and hobby for all to enjoy at some level coming from the Epicenter of WWI aviation.

As an aside, just receive an order of items from Philip Makanna “the Ghost” who has had the privilege of photographing and capturing some of those grand machines of TVAL in New Zealand. If we can’t be there in body we can a least be there in spirit.

So, here’s to Sir Peter Jackson and to Des who provides the focal point that brings us all together for sharing and enjoying our special hobby regardless of scale or manufacture.  ;D

Paddy,
I'll join you in a toast as well, single malt mind you! Everyone here makes a difference, but folks like SPJ and Des truly contribute to this special group.
Speaking of good whiskey, a little anecdote I'd like to share if I may: Canadian RNAS Ace Alfred W. "Nick" Carter when interviewed in his early 90's and asked to what he attributed his longevity despite a very rough and stressful life stated "good single malt Scotch and better cigars". A man after my own heart!
Cheers All,
Lance ;)

I've tried many (perhaps too many; be still my quivering liver!) and I always go back to the, in my opinion, best there is, The MACALLAN.
