model storige and exhibistion
« on: March 29, 2014, 08:58:07 PM »
Hi,

I'm new here on this forum.
I'm a Belgian model builder, I've been model building over more than 30 years, in a wide section of the word, going from trains, figures, aircraft to cars.
The main thing I build now are pre WW2 scratch build race and speed record slot cars, some are even older than WW1.

Many years ago I use to build WW2 RAF bombers, mainly scale 1/48.
The problem I had than, was to display all my builds, and I'm pretty sure that this is a problem that a lot of builders recognize.

Personally I find, that the biggest enemy of a finished model is dust, of course other factors like sun light, and heat can also be devastating, but here you can take precautions against.
But dust has the nastiness of creeping everywhere.

Lately I opened one of the boxes where I stored my models RAF bombers in, and despite all the precautions I took by taping of all the openings.
I still discovered that dust found it's way in.

I'm now preparing my self to build a series of WW1 aircraft for a local exhibition that will take place in 2018 to remember the 100 year end of WW1.
And what interest me, is how you all display and store your builds against all the enemies of a model?

Perhaps there are also some good tips on cleaning?

cheers,
Danny
