Victor Chapman's Nieuport 11 N.1148
« on: March 24, 2014, 12:48:28 PM »
Here is one that I started a couple of years as part of a group build of early Nieuports, but am trying to finish this one for the ValleyCon show next weekend, so didn't have much time to take photos.  Just a few to show everything before the upper wing is added.  I also wanted to highlight the excellent resin gun from GasPatch models, it is the Lewis Mk. I with exposed cooling jackets.  The only problem with my gun mount is that Eduard has provided it as a flat photoetched piece, I tried to make it curved with superglue, but it looks too lumpy and is too fragile to sand smooth so I'm not sure how to proceed with that unless I use some wire to replace it.
Anyway, here are some photos on the work bench.  It is painted per Bob Pearson's profile in Windsock Nieuport Flyers of the Lafayette, and the decals are home made.

Very good job of the Nieuport, Dave.  The lewis gun is really well done.
I look forward to more updates.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Hi Dave,

How I like this. This is one I would like to do too, but it will never be the masterpiece you are producing at the moment. Very nice paintwork on all parts. Delicious!

Kind regards
Patrick

Hello Dave:

I think your upper gun mount turned out quite nice.  I don't see anything wrong with it at all.  So far it is looking very good.
Good luck at Valleycon.

Best

Thanks, only a couple of days till showtime, here's a photo from Wednesday, have it almost complete now, just need to touch up and spray some more semi-gloss to get rid of glue shine...

After attaching the wing I noticed the front of the Lewis gun was pointed skyward like a large artillery piece, I had to remove it and move the barrel more in line with the fuselage deck, and move the front V shaped support closer to the wing on the mounting bracket.
