« on: February 21, 2014, 08:45:28 PM »
Hi Des

Can you please let the modellers know that Spoked Wheel Shop has now committed to releasing it's unique supply of World's Best Rigging Line for the WW1 modellers.

I've posted a new topic in Spoked Wheel Shop and will provide full details over the next few days.

Best Regards
Steven Robson

I can vouch for Stevens claims about this being the worlds best rigging line for 1:32 scale WW1 aircraft, I have a sample pack and can say that it is a brilliant mono. It is a graphite monofilament which makes it dark grey in colour, this is ideal for simulating steel cables and does not need painting or colouring, it is 0.14mm in diameter and from what Steven has told me will be available in 300m rolls, price is yet to be determined but I believe it will be around the $40 mark with free post. Keep an eye on Spoked Wheel Shop for further developments. This line will be in limited supply and when it is sold out it will be gone forever.

WBRL on top, 2 lbs. test Maxima Chameleon (.005") bottom. The striking thing is the great color, looks very much like steel cable. I am using polyamide tubing for the ferrules; it's a little harder to get it to thread with Steven's line than the Maxima, but doable as seen below.

Thanks for pic, Bo.  ;)
I like the colour. Is it as supple as Maxima?

I would say certainly at least as "supple", however perhaps not as "smooth" (on a microscopic scale) or maybe slightly larger diameter because it is noticeably more difficult to thread thru those tiny polyamide tubes.

Bob, the Maxima that I have been using for many years is 0.12mm whilst the line from Steven is 0.14mm, so the 0.02mm even though only small does make a slight difference. I use 0.5mm Griffon brass tube which has a 0.33mm bore so threading the line through twice is not a problem, i have never used the tube that Bo mentioned.

Steven only has around 25 spools of this line so it's first in best dressed.

The 0.14mm and 0.12mm mono is ideal for 1:32 scale biplanes, but I think it would appear a little oversize in 1:48 scale. I don't build in 1:48 so maybe someone who does can tell you what is the best size line to use for your rigging.

My calculations put the 0.14mm as 4.48mm in real size, to simulate the same size in 1:48 scale your mono whould have to be 0.09mm

Is this line flexible/stretchy? I've been using EZ line, and RB and Gaspatch turnbuckles.

maybe a tad big for 1/48. i use .1mm line for that scale. its marketed as smoke colored invisible thread at local fabric store but it is basically just blackish/grey monofilament with the same properties as fishing line.
