"The Devil of Antwerp": Jan Olieslagers's Sopwith Camel, 1/32
« on: February 14, 2014, 03:21:33 PM »
Here is the vignette of Jan Olieslagers in his Sopwith Camel preparing to alight on one of his 496 sorties.  The aircraft is the Hobbycraft 1/32 kit, with mostly painted markings.  The pilot figure is the PJ Productions 1/32 British seated pilot, and the mechanic swinging the prop is and RAF figure from Wings.

This project was fun.  I'm not much of a figure painter, but I like the way they enhance the aeroplane nonetheless.  :)  I hope you enjoy this scene.  :D

Cheers,

Bob

Very nicely done Bob, the figures add a lot of realism to the scene and gives a real sense of meaning, congratulations on a magnificent build.

Thanks guys!  I was playng around with the Photobucket editor function, and came up with this one:

I sort of like the ability to create period images.  :)

Makes the Camel look even better, Bob. Lovely work and great photography (the "period' photos are very nice); a fitting setting for the beautiful Model you completed. What's next on the bench?
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks so much Von Buckle, Lance, Bud and Lindsay!

Next on the bench is an interesting question, Lance.  It's between the WNW DH-2 and a 1/32 scratchbuilt Sopwith Tabloid.  I'm a bit undecided at the moment, but popular opinion around here seems to be running in favor of the Tabloid.  ;D  It would certainly be appropriate for the centennial year of 2014, and it is a fairly basic design and should not be overly difficult to build from scratch (have I just jinxed myself?!).  :o  What do you guys think (BvB has already put in his tuppence  ;) )?

Cheers,

Bob

The Tabloid gets my vote, as well, Bob.  I have some walk around photos I can send you, if you like.
Cheers,
Bud

A Tabloid would indeed be wonderful, if you decided to go that way.

Best wishes

First your Camel Vignette has turned out Great! You have achieved terrific results utilizing that difficult kit. The figures add to the overall work! Next, The Tabloid gets my vote  8)
