WNW Fokker DVII Sieben Schwabians
« on: February 01, 2014, 11:36:02 AM »
Okay folks:

I saw Bob H's Seven Swabians and I just had to do one.  So, I got the decal sheet, and I got the Aviattic lozenge for the wings and away I went.  I think I messed up on the undercarriage air foil painting, I think it should be reversed, but; the WNW instructions for painting this a/c were not real helpful.  But here it is:

Woops! Wrong one, that is the Aurora one from years past.
Here it is sans doily:

A close up of the aileron control lines.  I used the Gaspatch turnbuckles this time.  Still sort of a pain to do.  I used EZ line and it pulled out twice, after I had the top wing on!!! Sheesh :'(

Another port view

Here's a starboard shot.  The photo in the WNW directions showed a wound patch on the rudder so I put one on.

I preshaded the horizontal stabilizer and I used a fine sharpie and drew the frame work in the elevator.  If you look close you can see it.  I did the same on the rudder.  It sort of has the effect.

In true upper Midwest fashion:  "So there you have it."

Best

Superb job, Mark.  The Sharpie worked a treat...good thinking.  She's a sweet
looking aeroplane, my friend.  Well done!

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Excellent D.VII Mark.
What isn't there to like about the Seben Swabian livery. Love it!

Cheers,

Outstanding job Mark!  That scheme seems awfully familiar for some reason.  ;D

You have quite a hanger full of beautiful D.VIIs at this point.  I am a bit behind, but will endeavor to rectify the situation before the centennial of the D.VII in 2018.  ;)

Very nice work my friend.  You can be quite proud of this lovely bird!  :)

Cheers,

Bob

Thanks for posting this fine build Mark. I especially like the shading effect you've achieved on the tail section.

Beautiful job Mark, the scheme is excellent and you've done a great job on this one. Which Aviattic Sheet(s) did you use, the lozenge looks spectacular?
Got to say it's not hard to tell the Mid West is having a really bad Winter, your productivity is incredible at present, and there's certainly no drop in the quality of your work!
Cheers,
Lance

Another wonderful presentation of this colour scheme. What a pity the markings are not available in 1/72 scale as they would not be possible to paint by hand (at least not by me). I agree with the others that the finish is absolutely top notch and there is no mistake about that. Congratulations. BTW the Aurora offering also looks very good too. More photos?

Hello everyone and thanks for all the kind comments.  I am humbled by all of your comments knowing that each and every one of you is a great modeler.  Today (1 Feb) I took the model to the "Hope it don't snow" contest in Rochester MN.  I really didn't expect to get anything for it.  I also entered my Sopwith Camel, the Nie 11, the Pfalz DXII and the Seven Swabians, I got a gold medal for the Seven Swabians.   People were saying how great the model was and what a great job I did.  I just put it together.  That's it.  It is a great kit, great decals and a modicum of skill.  I truly appreciate all  of your comments and compliments it means so much to me.  It is this forum more than anything and the great people here that motivate me to build and complete my models.
So, thanks again for stopping by.  No more Aurora stuff for the time being, but our theme this fall for our annual "Nordicon" is to take an old kit, using abilities and technology make the best of it.  I am going to use an Aurora DH4 and work on that and during the summer!  But; I digress.

Best

Mark,
Congratulations on the "Gold", certainly well deserved! Enjoy playing around with the "old" DH4, sounds like a lot of fun and should make for a challenging Summer.
Cheers,
Lance
