TVAL publish interesting note on their airshows
« on: January 24, 2014, 04:39:10 AM »
Pasted from Facebook:

Just for clarification re the Aircraft and where they display after seeing some comments.

The basic rule of thumb is the TVAL Aircraft that display at airshows around NZ other than our TVAL shows at Hood will be the replicas that haven't been built by us.

The 160 Gnome Camel, DVII, Triplanes etc. This also includes the Wings over Wairarapa Airshow here at Hood.

TVAL built aircraft and the WW1 original's will only be displayed at Hood Aerodrome TVAL shows.

There are of course been exceptions in the past at various airshows. The original BE2f and our first build SE5a at past Omaka shows and DVIII at Wanaka show for example.

And there maybe exceptions at future shows. But as above the basic rule will apply nearly all of the time.

So if you want to see our originals flying. BE2f, F2B, Avro 504 etc and the likes of the Albatros, Fe2B's, Snipe then at our TVAL show is the place to be.

The New Show format / layout.
We would love to fly everything we have in one afternoon but logistically this is getting harder to achieve. We keep building more air frames . Time is not so much of a problem ( we could extend the show of course ) but maintaining and operating these things is expensive in man power and money.
The format was changed to allow us to save $$ and time by setting up out side of the OSRC / Main Collection hangar rather than on the other side of the airfield. This enables us to cause less disruption to the general operation of Hood Aerodrome. Also closer to the hangar's in case the weather changes so we can put aircraft away in shelter quickly and we also don't have to hire marques etc to house merchandise etc. The show format will remain fluid as we find out what works and what doesn't. For example people really enjoyed the flight line walk and ability to be up close and personal with the pilots and ground crew, but lamented the loss of the vehicle rides. The good news is these will return as we figure a way of doing it around the new setup.

Any suggestions or feed back to help improve the shows is more than welcome. Post any here or send us a PM.

And the vehicle rides were re-introduced. I spent a very pleasant couple of hours before the show driving patrons around in the the 1914 Fiat 15TER truck, one of the original, restored vehicles in the TVAL fleet and a pleasure to drive
