Too many nice models here!
« on: January 23, 2014, 11:42:08 PM »
I can't keep up with all of the threads and I am running out of superlatives! I worry that I am slighting people by not commenting on their builds,  but I am just short on time.

Rob:

Ditto!  I have not seen a build here that is anything less than admirable modeling, but I just can't keep up with all of them. ;D  This is a remarkable community of very skilled and artful craftsmen.  I really appreciate all that I learn here, even if I don't always say so.  Thanks to all of you who share your knowledge here!  It is appreciated.  :D

Regards,

Bob

I agree - I must admit I am more likely to "follow" a build log of a model that I have in my stash, or one that I would like to own.  This is in no way a reflection on any of the other builds as there is just not enough time to read and comment on everything

I can't ever miss Des' scratchbuild logs though!

I am in the same situation; so much to see, so little time! I've recently attempted to become selective in what I follow on a daily basis however the selection process is difficult at times, there are so many fine Builds and topics here and so much learning available. That being said it's a tremendous compliment to our membership and the quality of our Forum that virtually every post is a "must read" entry.
Things could certainly be worse! ???
Cheers,
Lance

I wholly agree. If I am not careful I spend more time reading about the efforts of others than I do making my own models!

As others have written the standard of models presented on this site are at times mind-blowing and never less than inspiring. Thanks to all of you who have contributed: the results of your efforts is an archive of immense value in terms of ideas and factual information. I discovered this site quite by accident (I am not particularly tech-savvy) and I am so pleased that I did. What a wonderful bunch of fellow modellers you all are. I too appreciate your efforts even if I do not always comment.

I was just thinking the other day how long it was taking to go through all the days' posts. Just one of those problems that's nice to have as a side effect of a growing, welcoming place.

I am in the same boat:  Great stuff is happening here all the time.  I have learned so much from all of you.  I just don't have the time to go through all of the material that is presented.  I try to comment on all the builds; but sometimes time just gets away from me.  I don't do build logs because what I am doing has been logged by many more with great build logs, so I spend more time on the actual kit.  If I do build something that no one has yet touched on, like the AMC DH9, I will probably do a build log.

Best wishes to all

I spend a lot of my time at work going through the builds, I have no problem at all. :)

Wouldn't have the time at home though.

Agreed, but fortunately when I'm trapped before the computer with my university work, it's a welcome five-ten minute break. Too little time to do any modelling, but enough to admire the beautiful work of friends.

Two things strike me. First we must be close now to loving a forum which has the widest collection of built Dr.1s, Nieuports etc available in one place. Second it is a great gesture of trust that people are happy to post so much of their older work. That said maybe contributions to things like Show us yours will fall off in due course, as there is less new to post. Maybe.

Best wishes
Nigel

One of these days I'm going to post some crappy 1st efforts along with recent builds to show how much I've learned from everyone here.Mine are nowhere near the builds here, but maybe someday. A great place for info and inspiration!

who has the time to sit here and follow and comment on every single build? not i. i do much more lurking than posting these days. i limit myself to no more than a couple hours a day . i usually only post in a few instances. 1. the build is just above and beyond and i'm so impressed i just cant help but say something.2. if someone asks a question and i have an answer or a link that i think may help.3. if it is the build of an old friend that i have been aquainted with for some time and i want to say hello anyway.4. if i happen to have extra time one day i may post several comments . sometimes i feel retarded just posting praise on top of praise. so i sometimes just look and figure the praise given by other guys is enuff unless i want to interject a certain point.sometimes i have seen guys posting nothing but praises when there are obvious flaws, so most times i just say nothing rather than hurt someones feelings. me personally, i dont have time to post build logs as it cuts into my building time, so i generally dont do it. but if i did i would hope that guys would honestly critique my stuff. and therfore point out errors,in a constructive way. but i know some people are more sensitive to this and plus sometimes its hard to interpret the tone of a typed comment since you cant hear the voice and see the eyes to determine the intention.cheers friends, most of you are incerdible modellers and the rest of you arent to shabby either.

I agree with you all, there is far too much material on here to comment on, however I think this is the most informative forum that I have had the pleasure to belong to, everybody and I mean everybody is so helpful, with such brilliant modellers, long may the forum thrive, all praise to Des and you all.

Cheers

Pete.

Fair point, I guess folks feel uncomfortable saying negative things.  However, many build loggers ask for comments and criticisms.  I also think we are our own worst critics - we'll suggest in our posts where we think we have gone wrong, or painted badly etc.  Those of us with lesser skills will ask for advice for our weaker areas, therefore taking away any need for negative criticism.  On the occasion where I have seen any criticisms on here, they have been made in a constructive manner and taken in the spirit intended.

Perhaps we could ask Des to raise a section called Critique Corner, where you only post if you want honest criticism and people would feel free to point out errors and give constructive criticism to help you sort them out.

Cheers

Pete.
