Prez,
A black scheme is difficult to pull of in any scale let alone 1/72nd. Masterful work as always!

Another Ditto, looks larger than 1/72 !!!

I will add a couple of my Fokker Triplanes to the collection.  This first one is F.1 103/17 flown by Werner Voss.  I used the DML Dragon kit and an old resin conversion from Rosemont Hobbies with a new tail and cowl, as well as the decals for the F.1 serial and white nose art. I used a light gray acrylic for the bleached linen supposedly used on these prototypes, and did the streaking with Model Master Olive drab with a thin brush.  I am not in the yellow cowl category so hope you like it!

Also another early one, this is the DML Dragon 1/48 Knights of the Sky with Josef jacob's markings.  It was originally built out of the box for a box stock contest that I had entered, but later on I revised it by adding a Aeroclub Clerget engine and a wooden prop from Martin Digmayer.  I never corrected the tailplane but it looks good sitting on the shelf next to my other German aircraft.

Dave,
Two really well done Triplanes! I really like the Voss machine although I am STILL of the opinion a light blue was the base color, JMHO, but with no real proof either way yours is certainly just as likely and is TERRIFIC. Your Streaking looks OUTSTANDING!

Thanks Rick,  I based the Voss colors on a discussion on the Aerodrome with Dan San and Taz, seems they both agreed that it was a bleached linen color, that's what gave it the silvery gray appearance (How Mc Cudden described it anyway).  Supposedly only the 3 F triplanes used this fabric, later ones were clear doped linen or a few did have the overall turquoise color under the streaks.

Hello Dave,

Two really nice tripes. I like the Voss scheme very much. I wonder how you manage to finish the decals against the crenated wing side so well. I had such difficulties with the rudder of the spad.

Kind regards
Patrick

Excellent work on display from you mate - my favorite is the Voss machine.

Hi Patrick,
For the decals I always spray a gloss coat of future over the finished paint, wait for that to dry and use Micro Set/Micro sol to get them to conform to any surface textures.  when dry wipe off any leftover glue spots with water or they will turn into brown spots years later...  then spray a final layer of future to seal the edges, and when dry spray with dullcoat or semi-gloss whichever is correct for your final finish.  Due to the streaked wings and fuselage on the F.1 I painted the white cross fields and rudder first, masked off the squares and then did the streaking.  I have seen too many models where the streaking shows through the kit decals with the white cross fields.

I hope nobody minds me adding my recent build of the DR1 - the large scale Revell kit.

Very nice Fokkers guys!! I do like the Jacobs machine. You made the potentially monotone black come alive.
