Starting the Albatros, again.
« on: January 04, 2014, 10:13:44 AM »
Hi guys,
I've finally regained enough motion in all of my fingers to bring the started Albatros off the shelf and take stock of where I was. One thing I have made note of though, I'll have to tone down the amount of detail I had planned. Mostly because I'm still new at this multiple wings held together with spiderweb thing.

I'll admit it. I tried to do too much, too soon. I've spent so many years building armor and adding all kinds of trinkets and baubles, that for some crazy reason, I tried to do the same thing with this Alby. When you consider that this will be my second 1/32 aircraft in over 30 years, I probably should have toned it down a bit. Once I get a couple of these things under my belt, then I can start getting OCD on the detail work.

On that note, it's kind of an interesting learning curve. Had I not read the posts here, it never would have occurred to me to paint the wings and fuselage BEFORE you assemble them, as 90% of armor and monoplane aircraft can be painted after most of the assembly is completed.

Hopefully, by next week, I'll be back in full swing. Meanwhile, the Priest is almost completed. Just some miinor weathering, (needs more mud!), and the crew can be done while I build the Albatros.

 :)

Great to see you back in the saddle, Joe!  Delighted to read that your recovery is going so well and that the swelling is going down in your fingers enough to allow you to get back to modeling.  Did the doc change your meds?  I'm really looking forward to your participation in the forum and seeing that Albatros.
Cheers,
Bud

Thanks Bud!

Doc did change my meds, and I think we finally have the right combo. Amazing how much all these little pills can interfere with each other!

Hello Joe:

Looking forward to seeing your work on the Albie.  Just take your time and work through each phase, all of a sudden:  viola!!  You have an Albie on your shelf.

Best wishes

Good to hear your condition is improving, Joe.  I hope the Albatros proves to be
good medicine for you.  Enjoy the build!

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Best of luck with your health & I'm looking forward to better days for you...............
I arrived at the same conclusion with my "WnW" kits, "too much, too fast". But for me, I decided that realistically, they were just beyond my ability, so decided to sell them & recoup a bit for bills.
I'm looking about now for something to build/work on, but it seems the stuff I can see/work with is HUGE & not all that easily available :(
Maybe, I'm just past the age where I can do this.......................

Jim, you're never too old or broken to build models! If the size of the aircraft is an issue, I've noticed some larger, (1/16) scale armor starting to be produced more. You could also try your hand at building the larger radio control type aircraft, without all the R/C stuff. I had a friend who did just that, prior to his passing. He would buy the large scale R/C aircraft, then detail them. Remarkable work, really.

Just an idea!

Joe:
I did some preliminary poking around, and came up with this:

http://www.megahobby.com/116sovietsu100tankdestroyer100percentnewtool.aspx

it's a nice idea, but if they are all going to be that price range, it's a non-starter...........$99 for a "WnW" kit was a stretch for me on a fixed income, no way I could do that. :(

The search continues...................not one to give up easily, but I do become discouraged.
