Rob and Jim, thanks very much for checking. Sorry to hear about your Pup,  Jim. Do you think you'll do another to replace it? Forewarned is forearmed, right?

Can I be cheeky and ask where the warts are?

Not cheeky in the slightest. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Where do we start?
  • silvering on both "Betty" decals (kind of important)
  • wrong colour on the bottom of the fuselage
  • massive seam on the underside that I couldn't get rid of
  • smaller but much more noticeable seam at the base of the tailcone that couldn't get rid of
  • wrong gun for that scheme
  • couldn't get the double flying wires tight under the bottom wings
  • the rigging through the control horns looks like my dog did it
  • I'm sure I'll think of more

I hope it doesn't seem like I'm just fishing for compliments, because I'm not. Like I said, I'm posting mostly to show others that are anxious about posting their own "substandard work" (real or perceived) that they can take heart because all works are received on this forum with equal enthusiasm and encouragement. Secondly so that I can get some feedback. I think in order to do that I should have posted a build log or more revealing photos. That's for another day, though.   ;)

Once again, thanks to all that have looked in and commented. It means the world to me.

Lindsay

Hi Lindsay - I already have the WNW RFC kit of the Pup in my stash :-)... I would like to build this model in the livery of No. 7309 as flown by Sir Gordon Taylor, given his significance in early Australian aviation, though may need to print my own decals for this.

Jim

BTW: I have just ordered a book written by Taylor entitled "Sopwith Scout 7309" which I am looking forward to reading after I finish "No Parachute".
Woof!

I bet you can still fix the Betty silvering, either with Micro Sol / Micro Set or with (gasp) Lacquer Thinner. I'd start with a needle and Micro Sol, applied sparingly with a good paint brush. if that doesnt work, google around and you will find techniques for fixing silvering on finished models using LT. Easy does it;)

Cheers

Hi Lindsay,

You know if I was to make such a list, it would be twice as long as yours. But what you said about the forum is very true. There is as much appreciation and encouragement for poor modelers like me as for these masters who produce such wonderful builds. I still like your Pup very much!

Kind regards
Patrick

Lindsay, I'm in about the same mind as my friend Patrick.  Your "warty" Pup is better than
my best...at least until my Acme instant talent package arrives in the post. ;) ;D
Seriously, it's models like yours that inspire me to try to be a better modeller.
Thanks and keep up the good work!

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Thanks Bo. I Micro Sol'd the hell out of them, at least I thought I did, to no avail. But lacquer thinner?  :o You do like to live dangerously! "Tell me, Mr. Bo(nd), do you still still sleep with a gun under your pillow?"

Thanks for the tip.

Patrick and Ernie, you're too kind, and it's undeserved, but I'll just end with a sincere "thank you".

Sorry Lindsay for being a little slow to respond to this but your Pup looks excellent, you have done a brilliant job with the rigging and the overall finish looks really good, well done and I look forward to your next build.
