Hi - looks wonderful to me as well.

I'm just about at the point of rigging a 'betty' as well (not as nice as yours, but a good learning experience as mine nearly ended in the bin a couple of times), but I'm struggling a bit with the issue of turnbuckles..... I have a stash of Bob's buckles, but I can't tell from the photos/reference materials (which seem to be especially low resolution quality for pups) whether there were buckles on both the upper and lower wings... (and I note someone on this forum, sorry forgotten who, suggested that no turnbuckles were used, although some of the photos I have suggest otherwise). I can't get a close look at your photos as my work computer doesn't like the link, but how did you approach this...?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

FF

FF,

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be much use to you. If you take a close look you'll see that I punted on the turnbuckles and just didn't represent them. I tried knit-in elastic this time instead of the monofilament. The elastic rigging looks beautifully taught, and can handle the occasional man-handle from a three year old, but I think it lacks a certain something without the turnbuckles.

My only advice would be to check Des' build on his main site, and ask questions of the forum at large. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.

Lovely build
You might try photographing against a roll of wall paper lining roll, it forms a curve without creases and back lights your model beautifully

Good point, Dave. Thanks for bringing it up. I'll try that next time.

Well done, and what's next on the plate?

Thanks for looking in, Lance. It means a lot. I don't know what's next for a build. I'm staring down the barrel of a house move, so I would imagine that nothing will get done until I can set up shop at the new place. In the meantime I'll keep working vicariously at your bench!

Hello FF:

Sometimes we have to make concessions as we are building a model and due to the restraints of model building we do what is expedient.  I have used Bob's Buckles eyelets and tubes exclusively.  When I use EZ line I will sometimes wrap the line around itself coming out of the loop, securing it with Superglue and cutting off the end.  It is a satisfactory result and affect.  If I am using invisible thread, a monofiliment like sustance, for strength I use turnbuckles at both ends for strength and alignment.  There are those that would be critical, but as modelers we strive for accuracy and assembly expedience as well.  This is just my opinion and I hope this offers some help.  Remember, this is a hobby and it is supposed to be fun.
Best

Lindsay,
Given the fine balmy weather this is a perfect time to move to a new house! My last two moves have been in the Jan/Feb timeframe and there's just no experience like it................?!? :o Hope all goes well and your new "digs" are set up in record time.
Cheers,
Lance

Lindsay, I can only echo Lance's thoughts re winter moves.  Hope all goes well and
you are snug & warm in your new home as  soon as possible.  Remember,
don't freeze the fingers...you need them for your modelling. ;) ;D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

This one looks like a very decent Pup. No need to feel shy to show it. Just one remark, a plain sheet of pale-coloured paper would do it better for the photos!

Sorry to come in late but I have just returned to home after being away for a few days. Can I be cheeky and ask where the warts are? Believe me Lindsay I would be very proud of that build - and I really cannot see any warts no matter how hard I look. I do not think it has anything to do with your photographic skills - I think as the others do that you have produced a first class model. Very many congratulations - do show us more in future please.

Many thanks for kind word, lone. It's because of feedback like this that I definitely will post in the future. It's actually kind of fun showing something you're proud of! Why don't you pencil in December 2014 for when I show off my next build?  ;)

It is an excellent model. The finish is particularly well done.

FF - I've taken a number of photos from my recent trip to the UK and will post these soon...hopefully I have taken some shots of the rigging that may help you decide which way to go with the turnbuckles.

Jim

BTW: Lovely model Lindsay - I completed a Sopwith Pup from the WNW RNAS kit in the 'Anzac' configuration some time ago but, just like the real thing, it was 'shot down' from its perch and broke into a number of pieces! :-(  I decided not to salvage it as I made some mistakes with the rigging (used to much glue on the cowling and melted the double flying wires out of their anchor points!)
Woof!
