Hello Mark:

Outstanding work on the engine Mark!  The Springs really add that dimension of realism and will really be an eye catcher when exposed in the nacelle.  Looking forward to seeing you work through this build.  It is high on my todo list.

Best

Thanks for all of the comments guys, I appreciate everyone checking in on the build. It's been fun modifying the engine.

Next I'll be moving on to the belt driven wireless and it's equipment. There is an excellent picture of this area on page 17 of the "Salmson Aircraft of World War 1" book by Flying Machines Press.

I'll have an update soon.

Brilliant work on the engine, Mark!  Those springs make a world of difference.

Very nice, Mark!  I'm surprised that WNW doesn't provide those details.
Cheers,
Bud

That engine is brilliant, Mark, and the added detail for the wireless compartment is looking good.

Cheers.

Wireless equipment looks great Mark, it will look even better once you fit all the wiring, looking forward to seeing the next update.

Mark,
Very nice scratch building on the wireless. Like Bud I am surprised WNW didn't provide the gear. Did they intend for that panel to be removable?

Coming late to this build, please let me ask a (possibly dumb) question:

Yopu have painted the cylinders in a copper tone, but on photo you provided of the original (the one you used to show the clamps), the cylinders are black? I am confused - is the original a late model or a replica or whatever (I must confess that i really have very limited knowledge on allied types)?

Hi Rick,

The panel is removable and there are some indentations on the back of the wireless part, so I wouldn't be surprised if the wireless stuff would be included in the "upgraded" version.

Hi Stefan,

I found that pic on a Google search.

I think many of the very early Salmson engines I've seen were not painted, like on the Voisin.

Some of the period pictures of the Salmson engines for the 2-A2 look to be painted in some way to me but I like the color variation of the copper and steel so I went with the kit instructions.
