Phönix D.I - Special Hobby 1/48
« on: December 27, 2013, 09:44:26 AM »
Here is my first Austrian plane: the pilot was Karl Urban who used this plane for his fifth and final victory: on 19 May 1918 he downed an Italian fighter, probably a Hanriot HD.1. (source Wikipedia).
He belonged to Flik 14J based at Feltre (Near Belluno in northeast ITALY!) during Austrian occupation.
Note that 19 May is my birthday!

The kit was really good, apart from the struts I had to remake from scratch, everything was OK: decals, pieces and photoetched fret included.

Let's start with the show:

I used the Gaspatch turnbuckles and anchor points which are a bit costly but look great.
Also the anemometer was purchased by Gaspatch. It's fantastic!

Ciao!!!

Antonio

She's truly gorgeous, Antonio!  I love that mottle camo.

Fantastic job, Antonio!  The mottled camouflage is really well done.
Very good rigging as well.  You can be proud of your model, my friend.

Very good model especially that mottle camouflage - even looking at it gives me the shakes! Interesting to see an Austro-Hungarian machine too.

Hello Andonion:

Nice to see this one finished.  You did a great job on it as it looks great.  As was mentioned, nice to see an A.H. a/c.

Best

Bravo, Antonio!  Marvelous paint work and excellent recovery on the struts.  Your results are certainly an inspiration for those of us who have the Special Hobby kit in the stash, but have yet to muster the guts to tackle it. Congratulations on a great build!

Wow! As much as I admired your SVA, this one is even better. The mottled camo is outstanding.
