Engine prices.
« on: December 13, 2013, 08:48:24 AM »
I was offered a Hispano Suiza V8 aero engine to suit the SE.5a aircraft, the engine was complete but need a rebuild, asking price - $25.000,  there was a second engine, not complete and for display only, asking price - $7.500, add to the prices transport costs.

That's kinda steep for a 1/32 scale replica, don't you think?  ;D

Actually maybe cheaper than I oils have guessed, but I have no idea how many of these are still around. Supply and demand....

The Hispano is actually rather compact and quite an interesting and lovely bit of mechanical sculpture -- would make a nifty display if your housemate could cotton to it. $7,500 for a piece of art and history and it starts to seem like a bargain.... ;)

No amount of coaxing would convince my wife that a big lump of old metal is art and history and would look really good sitting in our lounge room, she just would no see the significance of the whole exercise.

You are spot on with that one Bo, she supports my modeling 100% and even suggests which kits to buy next, she quite often looks at my stash and makes comment on how good the kits are going to look as models on my display shelves.

That would give my 1915 Peugeot a decent power upgrade! A mate in the UK used to race a 1912 Vauxhall A-type with a Wolseley Viper (Hispano under licence) from an SE5 up it. It sounded amazing but stopping was a bit of an issue with two wheel brakes on skinny beaded-edge tyres
