Next kit after the "Junkers J1" (??)
« on: December 08, 2013, 03:19:34 AM »
OK, here's the deal..........I have looked through the "WnW" inventory about a hundred times (lol), and still don't know quite what to suggest, so I come again to you guys.
My wife wants a gift suggestion from me - for me :), but I'm not sure which way to go............I want to get a kit with some rigging, but don't want to "bite off too much" and get discouraged.
I was thinking about the "Salmson", but that may be a bit too intricate.

The next candidate is the "Pfalz D.IIIa"............it looks fairly simple to rig - has anyone built it that can give me some advice??

*** REALLY hope I'm not "pestering" you guys too much, but I'm lost :( ***

Thanks..........Jim J. -- "olfogey"

Well, I would put the difficulty of WNW based on rigging at:

Easy
Fokker DVII
HBW29

Not too bad
Pfalz
Sopwith Pup
SE5a
Albatros
Rumpler

More difficult
others with 2 wing bays

Real difficult
pushers - DH2 and FE

The Fokker Es may not be too bad - they have a fair amount of wires but only having the single wing makes it a lot more accessible to install the riggin (IMHO)

Any one of the Eindeckers  8)

I'm assuming that "Eindecker" means "one" wing(??)...........only interested in Biplane configuration.

Never think that you are pestering us Jim, we are here to help where possible.

As far as a biplane with relatively easy rigging you could not go past the Albatros or the Pfalz D.III, both are beautiful kits and have very basic rigging. The only problem with most things British are the double flying wires, not overly difficult to do but does require some rigging skills.

Keep well away from any pushers, anything with tail booms usually means an enormous amount of complex rigging.
