Spring weather is very changeable in the Wellington region and wind conditions can play havoc with TVAL airshows, but last Saturday turned out very well. Virtually all the aircraft got to fly and the new walkaround arrangements permitted a better selection of angles. What a fantastic show, probably the best yet. I have already shown a few photos of the new Albatros D.II and Sopwith Snipe in other threads so this photo selection will show other highlights.

No particular order

TVAL now have a Hucks starter

Check out the castor oil staining on the wings of the Pups

The Avro 504K had some engine problems soon after take off and had to make an emergency landing with insufficient airspeed. It dropped hard from about 10m on to the grass. Fortunately the damage did not appear to be serious and pilot was unhurt (but probably shaken).

Thanks to the pilots, the ground crew, the commentators, the volunteers and organisers for putting on a fantastic display.

Is this show on your bucket list yet?

Thanks for looking

Cheers
James

Absolutely brilliant James, thanks very much for posting these wonderful photos, what a spectacular collection of WW1 aircraft and some nice vehicles as well. Your
in-flight photography is excellent and the close up work will be great reference material. I will get there one year to see all these great aircraft in person.

Hi James

I'm just catching up on things.

The photos are superb and so helpful. Thanks! You must have a very impressive photo archive. By comparison with the years when I started building kits in the fifties we are so spoiled.

Best wishes
Nigel

Wow - what a sight!

Shame it's so far away, I'd love to see it.

If they ever find themselves with too many aeroplanes I know an ideal storage facility for some of them in Essex (UK) - what better place  than Stow Maries for such machines.   I can dream ......
