Using Mr. Metal Color
« on: November 07, 2013, 12:55:22 AM »
I've been trying out the Mr. Metal Color range of paints, I was wondering if those who use them varnish them after buffing?  I notice every time I touch them, I've got silver all over my fingers, but I was worried that doing a clear varnish over top would destroy the metallic effect.

If you do use a varnish, what do you recommend?

Thanks!

Hi Bribo.

You should not have any problems in the metallic effect after applying clear varnish, i advise you to try it first in a scrap plastic part or plastic card.

Give it a coat of metal color and then apply the varnish, if the look suits you then go on to your model.

Cheers

I would use Klear, but give the metal surface a really good buff up first?

I use Mr Metal Colors quite often, I use the stainless on all my rigging lines which never get touched so coating is not an issue. But for other areas that may be handled I polish the paint to the desired sheen then spary it with Humbrol Gloss Cote (their spelling not mine), this will stop the metallic paint rubbing off.

Hi,

I use the gloss varnish from Alclad - Aqua Gloss 600. Its quite thin varnish and can be used also for clear parts like "future" or before decals :)

Hope this helps

Best regards,
Sasho

Ron - Does the application of Testors Paint 1409 Metalizer Sealer change the appearance of the polished metallic finish which is achieved from Mr Metal Colors?

Sasho - Is the Alclad Aqua Gloss 600 compatable over any type of paint and is it quick drying?

Not in my opinion it only fixes the pigments in place.
