German late-war seats: wood, aluminium or what?

Hello All

I'm just about to start work again on my EV and I have a few of questions about interior fittings of late-war German aircraft.

First, the Eduard instructions specify wood brown for the seat; yet I know from the extant photos of Richthofen's seat that it was aluminium. By this stage in the war were German seats constructed of aluminium or some other material? If aluminium, were they covered with something like leather?

Second. The instruction sheet would have us finish various internal fittings in light grey. Yet EV reconstructions seem to show these parts in a grey-green which might not be too far removed from RLM 2. Which is the more likely and, if we are talking about an uncovered aluminium seat, would that be green-grey, grey or just aluminium?

1. The seat of Fokker E.V was made of aluminium and had cushions.

2. I think that grey-green it's your colour.

In one of the photos it shows the aluminium seat covered with something like a thin skin of brown leather and a nice brown cushion.

My gut feeling was that the various internal frame bits and pieces would be grey-green rather than light grey. Thanks for the reassurance.

Bertl "Umlaufmotor" has a new build thread going in another forum and posted this photo of Achim Engel's Fokker EV reproduction seat.



Aluminium back/sides and wooden bottom. Note the lower seat belts are attached to a bracket on the wooden base, not to the side frames. The fuselage longerons are wrapped in lozenge fabric and the fuselage covering was then sewn to this, and lozenge strips then doped over the longerons on the outside



Metal tubing is painted Fokker Olive Green

From Achim Engels website:



"The seat is made up from a simple aluminum shell that is fabric covered. It is a very light and clever design. The shell is covered with fabric that is doped. Since the fabric under tension seeks the short way around the curve, there is a air cushion comming into existance between the cover and the seat shell. This heats up when sitting in and provides a warm rest for the pilot´s back"
