Your method sounds good to me. I too found assembling the parts a challenge. I would have to go back to my log to see just how much it tormented me  :o Be sure to take photos of your jig in place if you can, it may help me on a future build!

Hi Rick,

I had already finished gluing the undercarriage legs when I received your post. So I tried to redo the setup. A jig is a very great word for what it is you know.

The base cardboard is replicating the 4 holes in the fuselage (I fixed the legs with tape).
The 2nd cardboard is representing the angle (70°) on both sides. The width is approx. 42mm, this is the dimension of the spreader bar. All has to be fixed by tape (the picture is just an exemple and not properly done).

The undercarriage parts are the least fine WnW parts I found till today, although it's good looking when properly fixed. I still had troubles assembling them.

Kind regards
Patrick

Patrick. Thank you for going through the trouble of re-creating your set up! It looks as though it worked quite well!

What a great idea Patrick!  By using cardboard it is a cheap and easy method, and can be repeated.

I too find that the undercarriage parts are very tricky, until complete.  I usually assemble the undercarriage with the model upside down so the glue can set without having to support the weight of the model.

I will certainly give your method a try next time!

Thank you Ian, glad if this can be of any help to someone. I wonder if the angle of 70° was common for most of the undercarriages.

Kind regards
Patrick

Patrick,

That's a clever way of creating a jig  ;)

I'll be using that one I think..

A very good idea with the undercarriage jig you made Patrick, and thank you for sharing your idea with the forum members.

Hi friends,

A small update with the tail rigging ( I spend hours and hours), the undercarriage installed, decals all set and a lot of not so fine work. I will no prepare the wings and fuselage for rigging and try to mount the other wings (lots of stress coming up). Thank you for coming by.

Kind regards
Patrick
