Tumult in the Clouds- The Aviation Art of Russell Smith
« on: October 10, 2013, 06:05:20 AM »
for Russell and the membership,
My Son presented me with a copy of this book as a late Birthday present and I'm "blown away" by the incredible contents, it's absolutely magnificent! I'd like to post a few pictures and comments if you have no objections Russell, or Des, should a review be pending. This prize should be shared with all, and I highly recommend it to all of our members. To quote some of our Brit Members, it's simply "gob smacking"!
Cheers,
Lance

Lance - you will need to get the OK from Russell Smith and Jim Wilberg before posting any photos of this book and it's content, copyright is a very touchy subject.

Lance,
Russell, to my way of thinking, is up there in the highest echelons of aviation artists, living and passed.
The way Russ captures light and mood is truly a gift and joy to behold.

I have one original piece and many of his prints in my collection. I can't begin to tell you the amount of visual happiness they have given me over the years and long may (fingers crossed) that continue.

Enjoy!

Des,
Absolutely, I'm hoping to hear back from Russell, just wanted to compliment the work for now and bring it to the attention of the Forum. I'm curious, I was not aware of the book before this, is it well known?
Cheers,
Lance

I've got one and I think it is very impressive. The production qualities are top notch. It is a very interesting read as well as having lovely illustrations and photos. Would make a great gift.

Yes, this is a marvellous book. I am a very proud owner of one.
Now, if only shipping costs towards Germany would be a bit lower, I could afford buying some of Russel's prints...

Hi Stefan,
I had Russ lay away 2 or 3 prints at a time and then he would shipped them in the one tube. Worked like a charm!
If it's just the one print you require then I guess shipping could be a limiting factor. I personally think the shipping is worth it.

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for all of the rave reviews! I'm really flattered.

Stefan, the overseas rates are rather high. Postage rates in the last few years have forced me to push my overseas rates higher than I am comfortable with.

Lance, thanks for your compliments. I'll save you the trouble of posting images and post the original promotional images.

Hello All

It looks brilliant, but bizarrely whilst I can find the book listed on Amazon.com there seems no sign of it on Amazon.uk

Best wishes
Nigel

Thanks for posting the images Russell. I am truly enjoying the book and wished to share it's "magic" with all. The narratives are almost as good as the art work!
Cheers,
Lance :)

I'll add this for my wish list for Santa ;D.

It would be a great honour and very important to this humble modeler if you could sign it for me.

Cheers

Ordered, direct from Russ! Piggy bank lies shattered on the floor. How will I explain this to my wife?

Best wishes
