Paris on the horizon

Sue and I depart for Paris at the end of the month. We are doing our own thing and travelling as little as tourists as we can - but it IS Paris. A side trip to Normandy is planned but it will be very much a rush tour,staying in Caen for a couple then back to Paris. I did a quick google search but had no luck finding Paris hobby shops - again only a little time spent there as there are far more interesting things to do. If anyone knows of shop worth visiting let me know.

Hi Steve

A shop called Euromaquette (Euromodel)  is literally a couple of minutes from one of the mainline stations - the Gare Paris-Lyon. Their website  http://www.euro-maquette.eu/  contains a map, address details etc. They're big enough to command a full page advert in Tamiya Model Magazine International and the shop covers 200 square metres.

Be warned though that it is only open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 19:00.  I made a visit there last year. There's lots to look at in terms of stock and built models, but I found WWI material pretty thin on the ground.

Have fun in Paris Steve! I was there this week the night between wednesday and thursday. The usual stuff: arriving around 17.00 with the TGV from Strassbourg (nice: is a double decker high speed train which travels with a speed of 320km/h), checked in at the Hotel, had a business dinner and left early in the morning with the Thalys back to the Netherlands. I have been in Paris, they say...
But I have been to Paris often, but never seen any modelling stuff. You have to know where to look and I will store the suggestions in this topic. I must go to le Bourget I now understand.

going to paris and looking for modeller's shops? mmmmmmmmmmh... sounds unsafe! I mean, if you are travelling in pair...

nowadays it's so easy to shop by web, and paris it's so big and full of other attractions, that going for shops seems (to me) a waste of time!

planning a couple of days out of paris, I suggest you to going to caen just to the memorial, otherwise you'll be trapped in traffic jams just like in paris...
I was there last year, and found to sleep in BB on the coast, visiting a number of beautiful historic spots and landscapes.

a must it's the restaurant "l'estaminet", in saint marie du mont, behind utah beach. I'm not a gourmet, but as italian, I love the good food, and I'm suspicious about the french chefs. believe me, if I say go there.... go!
