LF 1/72 Albatros windscreen template
« on: September 26, 2013, 02:47:01 AM »
Hullo, I've purchased the old Eduard Albatros D.Va in 1/72, and just realized the kit lacks a windscreen of any description. Is there any kit pf this aircraft out there that has an acetate screen, and if so, would someone be willing to scan it? I can use it as a template for cutting out my own acetate screen.

I could scan a 1/32 screen HGW painting mask meant for WNW D.V and scale it down for you. It won't happen today though.

Note that there were a number of styles of windscreens -- I think you could pretty much wing it and have something no one could argue with.

That'd be great! I can even scale it down myself in photoshop.

It's not entirely a question of accuracy...it's also the fact that I'm wretched at anything to do with acetate, and I'm hoping that "coloring in the lines" (or cutting, as the case may be) will ensure slightly better results.

You may always try to add some detail with the Part set of photo etched, I guess that a acetate windscreen comes along with the metal part.

I simply cut mine from a piece of plastic packaging (the "blister" packaging that most things seem to have these days). Found a corner that looked right and cut it out....

I have also just cut a cigar shaped piece out of an acetate foil, delicately sanded the cut edges using 600 grade sand paper, bent it slightly rolling a 1mm drill bit solid end over the piece placed on the finger cushion. Then glued it using a Humbrol transparent glue.
The shape can be quite easily taken from any scale drawings.
And the result:
Ash nazg durbatuluk, ash nazg gimbatul,
Ash nazg thrakatuluk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul.

Like Prezmol said you can take the scale from scale drawings.

You give it a try Proco and do it. it's part of the fun and sometimes you'll be amazed about what one can do.

Tamiya sells some nice enamel paint markers, they are good to duplicate the metal part of the windshield. You just need to contour all around the acetate windshield without pressing too hard.
