Eduard 1/72 Albatros D.V
« on: September 17, 2013, 04:46:25 PM »
I've been lurking on here on and off for a while, picking up tips and admiring some excellent models. I figured it was about time I lowered the standard a bit. :) I've been trying to add an Albatros to my collection without any luck for years. I've finally managed to finish one and while it's nowhere near the class that usually gets posted on here I'm quite pleased with it.

Some photos for your amusement.

You have produced a beautiful model Ken, the scheme is very colourful and well applied, the propeller and the rigging is excellent especially being only 1:72 scale, I don't know how you guys work in such a small scale and produce such wonderful models, well done and congratulations. I hope to see more of your excellent work soon.

Well done Ken and congratulations for completing the Albatros. Don't put yourself down. This forum  is providing a big learning curve for many of us. Remember too that for every ten copies of a model sold probably only a fraction are even started, let alone finished.

Best wishes
Nigel

Looks great to me - i don't know how you manage with the rigging etc in the small scale.... I got a 'big' 1/72  last year (the Riden Felixstowe) and fell off my chair when i opened up and saw size of the parts etc.... still too scared to try. Somehow 1/72 seemed bigger when I was a kid....

Wow, Ken that is an absolutely gorgeous Albatros! 8)  I hope to see more of
your work.  You have some serious talent to put out a model like that in the
teeny scale! ;) ;D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

A colourful little bird, Ken! What did you use for the rigging?

Thanks. I used electric wire for the rigging. Rolled the strands out straight, measured, cut, swore, cut again and pva it in place. A few times I swore some more and rolled out another length and started again. ;D A little daunting at first but it was okay once I got started. The wire had to be painted afterwards due to it's copper colour but that didn't take too long.

Thanks for all the encouragement Gents. I started a Sabre this morning for a GB on another forum but I have Eduard's 1:72 DR1 on the shelf that is demanding attention and a Pfalz on the bench that I seem to have stalled with. I could be calling for help on this one soon. :D

That looks really nice, especially considering its size! So how big is it, about an inch long?  ;)

I'm anything but amused Ken, you've done a beautiful job and in a Scale I can't even imagine working in. When I last worked in 1:72 they came in baggies smaller then the sandwich size, and now I can't even read the writing on the new fancy boxes without my OptiVisor!
Very pretty little beast, you can be proud of your work.
Cheers,
Lance :)

Optivisor! That's the magic ingredient. I bought some 1/48 because I was struggling to see 1/72 only to find there was so much more detail in them and I couldn't see that either so I gave in and got myself one of those funny hats and went back to the scale I have a stash of. ;D

I will go up to 1/48 at some point but at the moment I'm still enjoying the little one.
