1/48 Nieuport Ni-17 and Fokker DR I meet a Hawker Typhoon !?!?!?
« on: September 06, 2013, 04:06:04 AM »
Hello All

Here are just are few more shots of the Eduard Nieuport Ni-17 and Fokker DR I. In a moment or two of surrealism they meet a Hasegawa Hawker Typhoon MK IB. I hope you don't mind. My purpose was to contrast aircraft from two World Wars in terms of power and size. The Ni-17 marked, I think, my first real venture into aircraft of the period; hence the naivety. It was rigged with stretched sprue. The DR I is rigged with EZ line; The Typhoon wasn't rigged but then with wings that thick ....

The markings are from the boxes for the  Ni-17 and DR I represent those of Nungesser and Hans Weiss respectively; those for the Typhoon are from 247 squadron.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy them. For those who have seen my flickr page, there is more to follow.

Best wishes
Nigel

Very lovely trio, Nigel!  I enjoyed the size comparison.

What was that about your models not being very good...? These are absolute crackers - the finish is superb, especially on the Nieuport. The Fokker is also very well done indeed - in fact two winners there. Congratulations on first rate modelling - by any standard.

An interesting comparison with the Typhoon - it is easy to forget just how small many WW1 aircraft were, and how relatively low powered these machines were too.

Very fine modelling here, Nigel. I especially like Nieuport and streaking on your Dr.I!
The comparison is interesting indeed. I am lucky to be able to see these differences every day. I have around 70 WW2 subjects and 55 WW1 ones sharing the same cabinet. It is always striking to see how small Camel was when compared to Spitfire, or Fokker Dr.I to Fw 190... It is also hard to believe that in 25 years mankind did such a great leap. Pity, that it was aimed at killing one another...

Lovely models, Nigel.  Grand job on the Nieuport (one of my favourites!), and the
streaking especially on the Dr.1 is super.  Oh yes the Typhoon is nice too. ;) (understatement ;D).
The size difference is quite something when you see it displayed as you have.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Reminds me of a particular magazine article that captured my imagination when I was a kid. It was an in depth comparison of the SPAD XIII vs. the  F-4 Phantom II. All the specs. Just the kind of thing an 8 year old would eat up. There was even an illustration showing them in a sort of a dogfight. Must have been in 1968 and the impetus would have been 50 years of US fighter aviation. A lot happened in those 50 years...

Beautiful job on all three models Nigel but I especially like the Nieuport, that is a stunning model. The size comparison is very interesting, it just goes to show how small these WW1 aircraft were. Congratulations on the three models, well done.

Nigel,
Three beautiful Models; the Nieuport is the epitome of "clean" and a real eye catcher! As for the size comparison the "nose to nose" photo of the Typhoon and DR1 says it so well. Thanks for posting these.
Cheers,
Lance

I too found the size comparison interesting. At the risk of being escorted off the premises, my favourite is your Typhoon.

Cheers,

Chris

Thank you all, as ever, for the kind words and encouragement.

It all presents a bit of a problem. I'm keen to start work on something from WnW, probably the Pup, but now want to crack on with the Eduard Sopwith Triplane and Camel (both in the course of construction), the SPAD and the Fokker EV. All this at a time when the new academic year is starting and I'm already getting masses of work related email.

Best wishes
Nigel

incredible meeting of legendary fighters, and give a real idea of airplanes evolution during the two wars.
