HEY from OLYMPIA, WA
« on: September 04, 2013, 08:56:39 AM »
HEY ALL,

I thought it was time to say hey and to let everyone know a little something about me.

I'm a recently retired art director and I've really gotten the bug to get back into modeling. I ran across this site a while ago, and was just overwhelmed at how the modeling world has changed so much from when I was a kid. When I found you guys I wasn't really looking for ww1 aircraft, I was just looking for something I could put some detail energy into. For those of you that like the details, I have the affliction bad.

The first time I built a ww1 iarcraft was the original release of Revells 1965 lt.blue plastic Dr.1 triplane, OOB. I was just 9 yrs old. I spent the next few years building and super detailing car models, and then in 1969 I found a reissue of the same triplane kit and rebuilt it again with much more detail. That was the last ww1 iarcraft kit that I ever built.

Years past and now I have found an entire subculture of modelers that build just ww1 aircraft of all types. So after months of poking around on the web I have decided to jump in and get involved with this subculture and see if the the affliction can take hold again.

I'm not quite ready to build just yet, I'm still acquiring parts for my first build and I thought I would just jump in with both feet. I just recieved WNW Gotha G.IV a few days ago and I'm on a quest to acquire all the third party deatils I can find befor I start the build.
I plan to build my models with working cables and air surfaces, and I'll attempt to make movable engine parts. I think 1/32 is a good scale from what you all are building and I'm excited to get back into model building.

So, thanks to DES for this great site and all of you for the insperation so I can try to tame the beast.

Thanks All for viewing and I'll post when I get started.

Sub-culture, super-awesome!
Yeah!  I like that, too, Lindsay.  We should get leather jackets with our colors on the back.

Welcome aboard, Rich!  I, too, am looking forward to seeing your Gotha come to life here.
Cheers,
Bud

Hi Rich,

Yep, ease yourself in gently!  :o

Looking forward to seeing the build.. Sounds like you'll be pushing boundaries... What's happened to us out of the box builders!

BO MONROE,

From Wisconsin. Thanks for reading my intro. What kind of art director of sorts were you? Let me know what you are building!

DES from Austrailia,

You have a great site here! I'll be making a donation this week end. I found this site a few month ago and I'm really impressed with how much of a resource center this place is. I live just down the road from Boing's flight museum in Seattle. I'll be taking photos of the 18 ww1 aircraft there to add to the referances that already exist here. Hopefully aircraft that are not already represented here, but a small contribution anyway.  Thanks for viewing.

ZABU,

ZEPPLIN-STAAKEN, really? I'd love to build a 1/32 model of that aircraft. Have you built one, or maybe a scratch built one? The Gotha I just recieved is going to be right beside the AEG G.IV as soon as WNW has it ready. I just love these giant lumbering beasts of the great war! To bad there isn't one of these in the works.  Thanks

LINDSAY T,

Thanks for sub-culture comment. With so many people involved with this craze, it's getting to be a full culture. Thanks
