1/32 Fokker DVI
« on: August 26, 2013, 07:37:45 AM »
1/32 Roden Fokker DVI.  I think Roden may have a few QA issues to work through.  There were a couple of sprues that were from the DRI kit that were thrown in by accident.  I had to do some surgery on the fuselage and the lower wing and kludge together a couple of struts from my spares box to make it look like a DVI vice DRI.  This is the first German subject I have done.  Working with lozenge was a bit different.  Not nearly as good as some of the work done by others on this forum but it was a good learning experience for me.  Cheers!

You have achieved an excellent result with this build, the overall finish is beautiful and your lozenge application is superb, congratulations on a great job and I hope we see more of your work soon.

Des,
Thanks for the words of encouragement.  I picked up the old Academy 1/32 Camel after I saw what you were able to do with it.  When I'm working on it, I usually have the web browser opened up to your camel build log. Thanks for the inspiration.  I'm in awe of your attention to detail.

Ryan -

Excellent!!

I've built this one recently and agree that it was not the most straight forward of builds (especially getting the lower wing on without the 'droop') but comes out looking good when complete.

A lovely result, I like what you were able to achieve with the kit lozenge.

Regarding the mixed-up sprues -- can you elaborate? From what I have been able to work out this kit is just a mildly reworked Dr.1 kit; most of the sprues are identical and there are some unused (Dr.1) parts. At least that is what I was able to deduce examining these two kits in my collection. Were there parts missing?

The fuselage between the DVI and DRI are a bit different.  The fuselage I had was intended for the DRI kit as it had the mid wing attachments for the DRI that I had to cut away.  Additionally, the DRI sprue I got did not have all of the struts that were necessary for a DVI build (missing the V struts that attach to the fuselage outboard of the MGs)  I was also missing the lower half of the lower wing so I had to get crazy with the bondo, CA glue, and some thin sheet plastic I had lying around.  I suppose I could have complained to the company but I figured I'd rather try and MacGuyver something together rather than wait for replacement sprues.  Cheers!

Great job, Poznanmid.  There's one of these in my stash and if it comes
out as good as yours, I'll be very pleased.  Hope to see more of your
projects.

Best Regards,
Ernie :)

You did a great job of MacGuyvering it together. The finish is particularly nice.

Nice looking machine and it sounds like you got a DVI "slush" kit. Good salvage job!!

That is one impressive build, despite the problems you encountered. The lozenge effect is also very good - I wish that I could achieve this standard of finish. Many congratulations.

Beautiful D.VI, Ryan.  Funny, I was just looking over my Eduard 1/48 kit.  Just planning for the future.  Now, I'm moving her up the queue.
Cheers,
Bud

I somehow missed this gem! A learning experience? Well, it looks like an expert show. Fantastic build all around, and my favourite D.VI scheme. Very well done!
