Nails done ;)

This is a great little product - very effective - In these close up shots they look a little over scale and too obvious, but the pictures are magnified. From about 6 inches back - they blend in - and more so once the details and decals are added.

They go on like a decal then after an hour or so you can remove the top film leaving the nails in place. They're very slightly raised, but not like rivets. Not strictly right I know - but from an artistic point of view - I'm pretty pleased - definitely better than me drawing them on anyway! They are quite time consuming, and the compound curves are tricky as they come as straight lines - but I'm planning the LVG next and, believe it or not, they do a set specifically for that kit - so this should make the process a whole lot easier.

What do you reckon?

Thanks,

Guy

I reckon it's beautiful, Guy. Really great effect. Makes me want to pick up an Albie just to use the decals.

The nails look fantastic, Guy.  I'll have to see if they make them in 1/48 scale.
Cheers,
Bud

Are nail should not be yet in these locations as pointed out?

Plywood must be nailed on each side, unless I'm wrong .

Hi Jacek,

Not according to a plan I've come across (or pictures of the TVAL aircraft)

But logically, I would agree with you. Maybe the panels interlocked? Perhaps someone with a greater knowledge could shed some light on it?

But looking at the TVAL Alby - it has made me realise the HGW nails are over scale - maybe it would be better using 1/48 nails?  :(

Morning all,

Very good Rick - you're clearly wasted here on the forum..  ;D

Managed to get a few stickers on last night  ;)

I'm really liking this scheme - the Wingnut decals are really top notch.

The photo etch fuselage 'furniture' is next up...

Cheers

Guy

Plywood must be nailed on each side, unless I'm wrong .

Jacek,
No, that is not how they were constructed. The plywood skin panels are joined to one another using glued scarf joints. A scarf joint is made by beveling the edges of the panels and overlapping them. The visible seams will not be directly over the structural members. The nails and screws are simply to clamp the skin to the structure while the glue sets up.

For a complete explanation, please refer to Koloman Mayerhofers 1:1 build logs to be found on the aerodrome forum. Everything you could ever want to know about how these fuselages were constructed can be read there.

Well done Bo  ;)

I suspected you'd come through with the greater knowledge!

Here are a few more shots with the photo etch in place - I guess that really wraps up the wood now bar a light filter or two. Very pleased with the Uschi product  ;D

I'm hoping my Lozenge will arrive soon from Wood and Wire then I can crack on with the wings  ;)

Comments welcome as usual..
