Great style - very period, I'm a fan of illustrative fine art: seems so much more accessible to me somehow.

I love these books - his illustration of a variety of WWI types is first class.
Um, anyone interested should be aware that biplanes aren't the only subject he draws with evident relish ie. some of it's nsfw so to speak.
The story's a little ripe too, but the planes are frankly gorgeous.

Hi James - I came across the Le pilote à l'Edelweiss books while browsing around the gift shop at the Air and Space museum.  The covers are beautifully illustrated and I got very close to buying them if it wasn't for the fact they were quite expensive (I think 30 Euro for both tomes 1 & 2) and in French...

Hello All

I was flicking through a copy of Vol 3 in the Le Pilote à L'Edelweiss series at a bookshop in Limoges the other day. What struck was not just the quality of overall illustration in this bande dessinée, but the apparent attention to detail. One of the images James posted shows an EV attacking a SPAD only to be jumped by another. Others views  of the EV show the upper wing and there you can see, would you believe, a good representation of current thinking on the two colour streaking. Someone knows their stuff.

Best wishes
Nigel

Nigel - Romain Hugault's attention to detail is indeed something to behold!  I remember a seeing a drawing of a cockpit from the POV of the pilot and seeing the control wires on the floor! Excellent stuff.

That is an amazing artwork of some Goth G.IV's. It is simply, stunning! Looks like the Gotha's are headed to England either the second time or after as you can see the two tanks on top of the wing. On the first raid in May 1917, they only carried one tank.
