1:32 Fokker D.VII F 'Eric Just'
« on: July 16, 2013, 05:16:36 AM »
Hi folks,

I figured that I'd better drop a build in here after being a member for a few months. I decided to have a crack at WNW's superb Fokker D.VII F kit. Initially I was going to do the Udet machine, but I fancied doing something with a lozenge finish, hence my change to Just's aircraft. That sort of has it all....nice red cowls, struts and hubs, a darkened tail and some neat black and white flashing.

Please excuse a number of these images as I'm building TWO D.VIIs, one of them being Rudolf Stark's lilac and lozenge machine.

I've used some HGW fabric decal for the interior, and transparent fabric effect decal to cover the painted seat. The lozenge is Aviattic. I'm hoping to wrap this one up in the next couple of weeks. Hope you like her.

Great pictures, thanks for posting this.  Building two at once with different markings appeals to me also.  It's something I'm going to do next time.

Beautiful work James!  Everything looks crisp and real, but I particularly like your instrument panels. Very well done!

I also like the tandem build approach.  I may try that with some Roden Dr.1s in the not too distant future. It must save some time!

Bob

Very nice work James, I'm doing the same profile but adding a little controversy to my build. I hope it turns out as sweet as yours though. How did the sash decal line up? Any issues with the fit at all? Only asking to prepare myself.

Fantastic start.

The cockpit and instrument panels are very nicely done.

The fuselage lozenge it's great too.

Thx for posting.

Very nice start(s)  Is the Lozenge from a "Cookie Cutter" set or from "Bolts"? It comes off really nice and the textured look is terrific.
Cheers,

Justs' DVIIF is one I am considering for a future build. Your model is looking absolutely stunning! I am looking forward to your next update,

....He must be far more mentally stronger than me!

Or just plain mental!! ;D

Looking excellent so far - love the rich, deep tone of the instrument panel.

Agreed. He was definitely wearing a cravat and a smoking jacket whilst painting those IPs.

Really nice..

I think that's tipped me over the edge towards lozenge decals.. The fabric look is spot on.

So just to clarify - that's a fabric effect decal over the lozenge decal?

I know I'm being lazy, but is there a D.VII ready cut (shaped) lozenge with a fabric effect on the market?

Cheers

Thanks for pointing that sash location out James, I'll be following your build as it progresses.

Guy
Wood & Wire AKA Old Propeller do some rather nice fabric effect lozenge sets, they aren't precut though as they are printed on a white background but even I managed to trim around the edge easily.

Great start, James.  Interesting idea building two
at once.  First class job on the instrument panel and
lozenge.  Looking forward to more updates! Thanks
for sharing your work with us.

Best Regards,
Ernie :)
