Great buys, Xan, and timely reminders of the debt we owe to both Roden and Eduard for the new ground they broke in terms of Great War aircraft modelling.

Best wishes

A new cutting mat ! Got it 30 bucks  :)

Terri

Good work, Terri, I was in Comex last Weds. and walked out the door with almost $70 less then I went in with, and had an identical Tamiya Tape Dispenser and a bunch of paint jars only to show for it! The Matt is a really good price.
Cheers,
Lance

Okay a few more things came in today.
The new book on Royal Prussian Jagdstaffel 30. Some schemes I want to do already. Finally I got one set of each of Bos engine cylinders and an oil pump, although I should have gotten two oil pumps. These are awesome and I cant wait to try to build one and use the Taurus cams etc also. Now to find bolts.

My latest is a new tool  :)

Pick this up at a second store and figured this would be prefect for me . No way will I be able to burn myself or the house down .
No manual was included so will have to look online to see how to use this . I remember seeing this advertise on TV many moons ago .

The solder has a rosin core so no need for flux right ?
Terri, the rosin core is actually for that last moment part of the soldering job. Flux should still be used for best results. Just dont use Plumbers solder or flux as it is acid based and will continue to eat away at the metal. I got some really nice low temp solder and flux from digikey and a soldering iron like yours. Works great. Hope that may be of some use to you.
James

Thank-you James , this is good to know  :)

Thanks Lance , I got the mat at Hobby Lobby right across the street form where I live . He doesn't have much in the line of kit's and paints . Mostly RC stuff but he is better priced on the Tamiya tape .

Very easy to walk into Comex and leave with your pockets almost empty , just wish they carried more then just Revell kit's .

James, Royal Prussian Jagdstaffel 30 is one of the best Unit Histories I've ever read. You will love it. I agree, there are some cool schemes to do. Rowen has produced a decal sheet for Jasta 30.

Hi James, yes I ordered it when it was released. Cant wait to get it. Just have 2 to finish first before I start another kit. Might try a Roden Albie to see if I can do it. This book is awesome. I'm taking it to work tonight to read at supper and break.

Hello All

I've bought a few things over the last couple of weeks. First, the glorious Biff from WNW; it arrived today. There is one in the stash already and this one is definitely for building sooner rather than later.

Here are some books I picked second hand. The two Osprey books were in mint condition. The larger book is a classic - the old Harleyford publication Von Richthofen and the Flying Circus, from 1958. It is in good condition, with a plastic protective cover.  I have no especial interest in the man, but wanted to be able to compare what some highly respected writers from that epoch had to say about his last flight, compared with Franks and Bennett, more recently. When I was a very young lad, the glossily printed, very expensive Harleyford books were but a dream. I beat the vendor down to £22 for all three books

Let loose in another bookshop I couldn't resist buying Volume 2 of the Naval aces series, even though I'm not participating in the current Group Build. Then, when back in France another book demanded that I buy it. This is the French language edition of the Histoire & Collections L'Aviation Française 1914-1918 When I get chance, I'll write a few notes on this book.

And finally. Look, I'm now a grandparent, so when Ena and I went into a toyshop whilst we were in the UK, she went in search of something suitable for someone now six months old. I was distracted by an Airfix sign. So, on a forum devoted to aircraft of the Great War, here is something suitably disguised.

Well, I had hoped to report the receipt of a WNW Gotha today but something has gone terribly wrong.  Earlier this week, tracking showed it arrived in Cleveland, Ohio, less than an hour from me, but the next tracking update showed it in Chicago and being returned to sender!   :o

I've emailed WNW to let them know what's happening and have also started an investigation with the US Postal Service.  I've placed many orders with WNW, shipped to the same address (my PO box) with nary a problem.  I'm guessing a damaged or missing shipping label.  I'm sure it will all get worked out.

Stay tuned for updates on the mystery of Eric's wayward Gotha.  :)

It will all get sorted eventually Eric, pity these things have to happen though.

Here is my very latest acquisitio: the Sikorsky S-XVI (first Russian fighter, conceived to escort the Ilya Muromets bombers).
I don't know much about it, but it was a 3.41 EUR bargain from

www.hobby.dn.ua bought together with a Roden RAF Be12b 1/48 and an Eastern Express 1/72 Vickers "Vimy" for a grand total of 32,00 EUR including shipping costs.

I already have a Grigorovitch 1/48 vacuum-formed (traded with Mark / Guitarlute) and look for a honestly priced Ilya Muromets to add to my collection a good trio of Rusisan planes.

On the box sides are shown the other Eastern Express WW1 kits, maybe they are former TOKO masters, the Salamander is another plane I look for, I am afraid in 48 it does not exist....

That's all!
