Hansa Brandenburg D.I Eduard 1/48
« on: June 30, 2013, 09:14:21 PM »
In order to get to some mental balance after rigging the Taube I`ve decided to build something without rigging...
It`s an oldie goldie Eduard`s kit - I guess their fourth model from 1994. A lot of PE and very hard plastic. I`m planning to build machine nr. 28.11 flown by an Austrian (Hungarian actually) ace Karl Kaszala.

I've never seen this one before. It'll be fun to watch something lesser known get built. Good luck with the build!

I'll be watching with much interest. I have a few of those kits and have recently entertained thoughts of converting one to a KDW.

I'll sure be looking this one, having one 1/72 to build too.

Great choice!

The cockpit is basically finished. I` ve added some details but what comes in box is decent anyway.
The engine is from LLoyd CV by SH - a horribly crude looking piece of resin.
The prop is homemade.

Propeller and cabin elegant. Motor weak, but it's an old set :)

It's going great.

The interior looks fine and the prop it's nicely done.

Looking forward to your next update.

Cheers

Jacek I agree the engine is nightmarish and I would never put it into model if it was more visible. but the only part that you really see is the top. For the purpose of this model it`ll do!

Outstanding work so far, Filip.  That cockpit is truly lovely.

The fusselage is painted, it still needs some major touch-ups. This is the first time I`ve tried to emulate the veneer using oil paints and I must say I`m pretty satisfied with the result. The whole thing needs a little bit of sanding. I added the nails fixing the sheets of veneer to the construction using a sharp pencil. I have also attempted to emulate the swirls on the engine covers with a rather mediocre result...

It takes more than 12 hours for the wood glue (Wikol - you know it for sure;)) to cure, and then maybe 2 hours of carving and sanding, so it` s pretty short.
You should try it Krzysiek it` s a lot of fun. You can buy a nice set of prop bosses by Part and off you go!

Sheathing looks great. Stair make a dark color to make it look that can be inserted into foot.
