Entire month of June I was away from home. Only now I have time to look at our forum. I saw that you are doing model that I also made. Maybe it's not too late, and maybe something with my work useful to you.
So look here.

Hi Adam
The links you've added seem to be dead. Can you check them and repost them? I'd like to have a look at your work.
Cheers
Fred

When I try it, it is working, maybe here will be better.  :)

Rigging!!! I've started making turnbuckles. I found this cool tutorial on rigging using mono filament. I will also need to get some really thin brass tubing.

http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2001/11/stuff_eng_tech_rigging.htm

Instead of using mono filament I'm using 8amp fuse wire. No need for super glue to strengthen the twist..

I'm not sure how many I'll need. I think 36 in total. Anyone know for sure? Any help or nudges in the right direction will be appreciated.

Lots of twisting, Fred.  ;D
By the way, Des has a good article on
making turnbuckles on the site's front page.  Try here...

I am absolutely gutted   :'(  My 22 month old son managed to sneak into my work area climbed onto my desk and got hold of my work in progress :o Unfortunately, my golden lab followed him into my study and thought the Albatros was a chew toy my son was waving around.  >:( Needless to say the fuselage is totally chewed up. I have salvaged what i could but the model is beyond repair. I'll keep the peices and use them for a battle diorama or something in future. :( ...

I have purchased another Eduard Albatros D.III OEFFAG 253 and will re-build the fuselage, etc and continue on with the build.... I need to have closure as i was really enjoying this build and I made room to display it when finished....

Suffice it to say I have learned a huge lesson :-[ my study is now locked when I'm not around.. no matter how secure you think things are from a toddler, think twice..if it looks like a toy then it's a toy and they'll want to claim it... and labs love to chew anything and everything!!

Onward!!  8)

Hello Fred:

I know how frustrating that can be.  Persevere and apply what you learned and you will have a great looking model.  I like the OAFFAG version of the Albatros, I hope that some day there will be one in 1/32nd.
Looking forward to your updates.
A shameless plug here for Bob's Buckles.  Ready made eyelets and brass tubing for the most discriminating modeler.

Ouch. But your next attempt can be so much better for everything you learned on the way...

I feel for you Fred! You had a great model in the works there and I know the second attempt will be better.
About 40 years back I worked in 1/72 on WW1 and WW2 subjects. I had the collection in two sliding glass wall mounted cases which my four year old managed to climb up to, open, and more or less destroy all but a few in mere minutes. (one has to drop them to the floor to get back down and play with them.........) Thus I know how you feel; hang in there, get back at her, and I look forward to the "return of the OEFFAG"!
Cheers,
Lance :'(.......................... :)!

I know how you feel, my cat, when she was young she liked to walk on my models.  :-[  Also my sons liked to play football in the room, where  were my models.  :'(
In your case you gained a priceless thing, experience.  ;D Certainly building yours model, you thought that you could do some things differently, now you have the opportunity to do it.  ;D

Man that is a horrible blow, Fred, but full marks for going on with
the build. As Adam mentioned, it's a chance to make it even better.
Good lesson to all about security in your work area...if my
Bichon ever gets the nerve to try my rather steep stairs, I'll be in
a world of hurt!  Looking forward to the new & improved.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

oh boy...
so sad. :-[

but.
let's see the glass half full: the next will certainly be better, sometimes I want to be forced to do two times certain things (and my fuselage Albatros is a perfect example).

by the way, I solved the problem at the root of the difference-model toy building a model with my son ... after seeing how much work goes in, it is he now who thinks twice to get his hands where they shouldn't be! ;)

This is not the Eduard Albatros D.III OEFFAG 253 but an Eduard D.V weekend I've started in lieu of restarting and completing the previously mentioned.

As a luthier by trade, I have lots of dead pickups in a shoe box. I have found a use for the old guitar pickups. The fine copper wire used for the pickup coils are great for rigging!  ;D

I have used .5mm brass tube cut to 1mm and used the pickup wire as instructed in Des' tutorial found here..
http://www.ww1aircraftmodels.com/page8.html

i wish i'd have used thinner wire for the eyelets but as I'm learning it's ok.... .

The pickup wire is as thin or even thinner than human hair...good for 1/48 riggin, no?

I WILL restart the Eduard Albatros D.III OEFFAG 253 ASAP... I MUST!! >:(
