WNW Sopwith Snipe - Early
« on: June 22, 2013, 03:39:29 AM »
Hello All,

I've only just joined (see the introduction forum), but I was keen to start a build log, having not done one before. Hopefully to show some of my techniques and to learn some of yours!

This is the WNW (Early) Snipe - It's an absolute beaut! Not a huge amount of parts compared to some of the others - which is encouraging.. ;)

I was really keen on this colour scheme:

I had the silver grey grey scheme on my Pfalz which I really enjoyed and I'm keen to do something similar on the Snipe:

I've made a brief start.. I love doing the wood - but the drawback is the drying time! I have added a medium to speed up the drying process so hopefully that will help. Please feel free to post feedback! I'm always keen to improve my models..

Thanks for looking  :D

The wood grain looks fantastic, Guy.  The use of oils really does require a bit of patience.
That Pfalz of yours is truly stunning.  The weathering is brilliant.
Cheers,
Bud

Thanks  ;D

The silver is straight Vallejo model air Aluminium. I can't get too excited about the interior metals as the opening is fairly small and you can't tell the difference once the model is finished - well, I can't anyway! I am a big fan of Alclad metallics though - I would use these on any exterior metalwork as they are very realistic but they do require a fair bit of experimentation to get right. But it's worth the effort. I made a Tamiya Thunderbolt last year, purely to practice using Alclad

Am I allowed to post WW2 here?!  >:(

Excellent start on the Snipe Gisbod, your skills in modeling are quite evident not only with the Snipe but the pfalz as well, the Pfalz is beautiful.

As this is primarily a WW1 aircraft model forum I try to restrict WW2 subjects to the Time to Relax board, but in this case you have used the model as an example of your painting so I will leave it in your topic, BTW, great paint job on the Thunderbolt.

You are off to a great start.  Looks like you have
no trouble at all with the woodgrain. Nice to see
you on the boards.  Thanks for sharing your work.

Yes indeed, your Pfalz is a beauty. I'll be watching this thread with interest as I have an early Snipe lined up for my next project.

Cheers,

Chris

Guess I'll have to finally get a Snipe.  This is the scheme that caught my eye.  You've definitely got my attention on this one.  I'll be watching!  Thanks for your contribution.  I've have taken so many notes and learned numerous techniques that make this group effort very rewarding.

Off on a shopping spree and then to the bench!

I love the Pfalz, I'm building one at the moment and if it turns out anywhere near as nice I'll be more than happy.

I'm planning on doing a late Snipe when I finally get that one finished as well so I'll be following this with interest.

Love your Snipe scheme choice. The Pfalz and T-bolt are proof you'll do it justice!!
