WW1 Instrumentation

I would appreciate some education from the knowledgable people on the the forum please.  If this information already exists somewhere in summary form please point me to it.

My question is what was the progression of instruments installed on planes throughout the war?  For example, I'm assuming they all had a compass.  The Nieuport 11 seems to have very little other than that.  Without looking it up, I think it only had an altimeter and fuel gauge of sorts.  Some of the later aircraft seem to have considerable more, but all far less than what I see on midwar planes (just spent some time looking at Silver Wings models).

Can anyone help me?
