I am about 90 per cent done with my WNW Sopwith Triplane and like you, am doing scheme E and used Humbrol #10 brown slightly lightened with some semi gloss white.

I'm a brush painter but was fortunate to have an old tin of Humbrol 10 ( from the days when Humbrol enamels brushed like a charm). The model looks great with Humbrol 10. I use a blend of Pollyscale Flat and Satin finishes to give the model a suitable doped sheen and the end result is really nice.

Two build issues to beware of - as with the WnW Sopwith Pup, the fuselage with the cockpit tub installed, will not allow a flush fit with the lower wing. The cockpit tub protrudes too low. You have to shave off a good slice of the under cockpit tub assembly to get a good fuselage/ wing fit. A Dremel and wet and dry paper are your friends here. Plus lots and lots of test fitting.

The other design flaw is in the upper cockpit coaming. It will not fit between the cabane struts when the fuselage is glued together. You have to leave one side of the upper cockpit tub loose until you install the coaming then glue the sides together from under the coaming. Annoying but fixable.

Enjoy the build!

cheers

Good to see you jump in with a Tripe build log too Rick! I think I'll throw out the anchor and let you catch up and overtake me.  ;)

Cheers,

Chris
You can have it good; You can have it fast; you can have it cheap. Pick any two, but all three are impossible.

The spinner is supplied - look carefully... :)

I may be missing the forest for the trees but can't seem to locate the spinner. Do you have a part number to help me out ?

Following the build by Chris I was aware of the tub/lower wing fit issue but not the other. Thanks for the heads up !

Here is the result of my paint experiment: I have decided to go with a mixture of Humbrol 10 and 186. (Right side of tailplane). The left side is straight Humbrol 10, and the middle is the Tamiya red brown,

PS: The Humbrol 10 looks much more BROWN in real life  ::)

Rick , Is PC10 a brown color or is it a Kaki ? The Roden kit gives the paint color as Model Master 2050 matt ww1 green. I`m confused  ::).

Willi, WELCOME to one of the Largest debates known to WW1 modelers! That being said My Personal opinion on MOST aircraft with PC 10 is a faded US Olive Drab 41, a color that looks brown in some lighting and greener in others. With the Triplane I am going with the more "Chocolate" brown as seen on surviving samples. Could be PC 12. WNW give this in all of their directions: PC10/12. In other words make up your own mind! Drop in on the Aerodrome forum and search PC 10, you will be treated to a plethora of heated debates regarding the "True" color of PC10.  :-X

Thanks Rick,

I like the color. in the WNW`s Sopwith Triplane capture German scheme . That`s what I `m trying to match.

Willi, provided a link after your response, see my original answer. All in all I would go with a more brown finish. Experiment with ODs and browns to your taste !

Ah yes, I remember that 2 month long thread although you bowed out gracefully half way through ;D It was wild and ultimately inconclusive. There are fairly wide guidlines to PC10. Do it the way it looks best to you within reason. As far as accuracy - the other thing about models is.............they're a lot smaller that the real thing too......

STEVE,
Bowed out gracefully is a very kind way to phrase my exit  :-X  Those threads were by their very nature always ultimately inconclusive  8)

Not much chance of my overtaking you on this one. My vacation is almost done. I will finish the MvR figure before I get real serious about this one. Just doing some basic interior work right now.
