Hallo folks!
I just won a bid on e-bay
Well I was looking after a D III since a while, here is the object I won (21 eur incl. P&P):



The box is damaged but the content is mint new (so the seller says!)

I want to make this version, as depicted on the 1/32 Roden box



I am fascinated by the moon and I smoke the pipe so... I loved this plane.
It should be Walther Kleffel plane of Jasta 18...

Now I need to get the decals or to make them myself.
Any suggestion where to find decals or some mask?
I could print the decals myself but I'd prefer something readymade...

I am currently building the 72nd scale version of this very aircraft. But, but, but, is it not Hans Burckhard von Buttlar's D.III? Kleffel's machine had the Krupp's three ring logo, hadn't it?

Dear Prez, I am not totally sure, I just read about it here and there. Maybe you are right, where did you get the information?
I have read on the Aerodrome that Hans Burckhard von Buttlar's D.III was the one with the hunting horn...
But have no primary source myself so I am open to any different attribution of that plane.

In any case I like that "man in the moon" sign and I'd like to make that plane
 ;)

Hallo friends,
I received the parcel - a couple of days ago - and my mouth started to water.
But when I opened the packet I got a few bad surprises:

- The sprue with the two wings is NOT from that kit, not only the wings are different and don't fit the fuselage but there are also duplicate items which are also on the other sprue (e.g. the struts, the wheels) while it should bring pieces which are not provided on the other sprue

It's an Albie DV...
Here is the schema of the instruction sheet showing the correct sprue:


- The other sprue is correct with respect to the instructions but one of the fuselage halves has a long horizontal crack on it which is as deep as the plastic thickness,
from outside


in fact it is visible on the inside as well.


- The 3rd sprue is the engine (which is OK)

Then the box contains:
- a Photoetched fret (OK)
- decals (OK)
- acetate sheet for the instruments (OK)
- Instruction booklet (OK)

It's a pity because it appeared as a bargain and the quality of the kit looks really good!!!!

I complained with the sellers and got the promise to get my money back , so I sent the box back to UK and I'm hunting again!

the pfalz hunting was not so long, thanks to our friend Rob who was so kind to send over a most appreciated gift:

Well I was so happy in getting this kit yesterday in my mailbox... it will deserve a special treatment and will be my next German building...

Here are some more pictures of what's in the box but please have a look to the cherries on top of the cake: the man in the moon smoking pipe decals... Which weren't supplied originally in this box and Rob was so kind to include in the package...


Who could ask for more?
I feel happy like a child on Xmas night.

After Przemol's completion of his very nice DIII (THREAD HERE)

I did some fast research on the owner of the "man in the moon with pipe" marking because I had read it was Walther Kleffel, and I had read that Burkhard had the hunting horn, but then I learnt that Hans Burckhard von Buttlar arrived ath the Jasta 18 airfield mid January 1918 and had the Pfalz DIII with the "man in the moon with pipe" marking while at the end of the same month he took the DIIIa left by Max Hitschler

and overpainted the vertical stripes with the hunting horn coming from his family's coat of arms.

So why all over the web the "man in the moon with pipe" is so often associated to Kleffel?
Perhaps there is some information bit I am still missing...
