Sopwith Collection
« on: March 20, 2013, 11:45:17 AM »
Here are the four Sopwith models I have built, the Pup and Snipe are WnW, the Tripe is Roden and the Camel is Academy, all are beautiful kits to build.

Des.

This photo shows a comparison between the Camel and the Snipe.

What a wonderful collection of truly masterful models.  Now you need a Dolphin, a Strutter and a Baby.  When viewed side by side, the Snipe looks about as much like a Camel as a Camel looks like a Pup.  What a cool comparison.
Cheers,
Bud

Great stuff Des; something for me to aspire to.

Seen  in a couple of the views, the Snipe seems to make even the Camel look elegant and that's no mean achievement.

Best wishes
Nigel

Great stuff Des! ;D  I really like the grouping of aircraft like this.  It adds a whole new dimension.  Thanks for sharing this. :)

Interesting to see a comparison between the various models. The Snipe looks almost stubby compared to the others. The tripe looks delicate in comparison.

Cheers,

Chris

Magnificent "gaggle" Des, all beautiful models in their own right. The Snipe/Camel comparison is is really graphic, the Snipe is much "beefier" then I'd thought, almost looks like a Camel on steroids! ;)

Lance

Really nice collection Des! All we need is a Dolphin and 1 1/2 strutter, both of which I am sure we will see eventually!

Very nice indeed Des

Dumb question time - why is the 1 1/2 Strutter called such?

Because of the unusual cabane strut arrangement

i remember following each of these builds, each one different and each one fantastic in its own right. i still say a snipe looks like a camel with downs but you know what they say about beauty. :-\

The Snipe is a chunky looking aeroplane but apparently they kept the fuselage the same profile as the engine cowl, which, in theory, has merit, but it does make for a very ''round''  fuselage. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you either love it or hate it, I was never very keen on the Snipe purely for it's looks but after building the model I have taken a different view. Colour schemes will make all the difference to the appearance of this aeroplane and I'm sure we will see some very colourful models appearing here soon, I hope so.

One thing I will say though is if anyone is looking for a model that is very very easy to build this is the one, it is so user friendly that I would even recommend this kit to a beginner, Wingnuts have done a superb job engineering this kit and they deserve a good pat on the back,  10/10 to Wingnuts.

Neat Collection Des:

What vendor did you use for the decals on the Camel?  Looks good.

Best
